I have a 540 that i use at church and a 740 that i use at home for singing/recording. I've been thinking of buying a used 740 and using it at church because I like the 4 style variations, plus it's just more awesome than the 540. But I was thinking of buying a 1000 for home instead and taking my 740 to church. So is a 1000 much better than a 740?

The 1000 is just an improvemnt on the PSR-640.. The 1000 only has 32 note poly no vocalizer, and many other options the 740 will give you.. The 1000 does however have an internal sequencer and now has more room for user styles too.. It also has a screen like that of the 9000.. Also keep in mind you'll lose the modulation wheel on the 1000 too.. Remember the 740 has 12mbs to the voices.. I'm not too sure the 1000 has that much.. I think Yamaha has a comparison chart on their site where you can compare the differnt models

Go for the PSR2000, there's not much point in getting a PSR1000 given the price difference between the 2. The 2000 gives you a LOT more for your money!!!
