I am in the market for a new synth (a serious model) ... will Yamaha ever genuinely outdo Roland? I've been checking them both out, and Roland seems to still be edging out Yamaha.

One question....... what kind of "synth" are you looking for? A workstation like an XP-60/80; a stage piano, like a P-200/80 or RD-600; or just a good synth, XV-88 and S-80???????? I say in the workstation category Roland has Yamaha beat, stage pianos Yamaha rules, and synths it depends on what you need..... I'll explain that if that is the route you're taking. Also don't forget about Korg, Kurzweil and other brands out there. Yamaha and Roland by no means have the industry monopolized. Look at the Korg Triton, Kurz. 2500/2600 and Ensoniq ZR-76....... also if you are into Techno/Electronic/Industrial music, ask about that and I'm sure someone else here can help you. Tell me what you're looking for and I will be able to help you more.
