I can't tell what to do, but I know what I would do.

I would not buy the Keyboard period!!!!

Lack of timely communication and misleading (not necessarily deliberate) history of the keyboard is plenty of reason to hang on to your hard earned money. The warranty issue is certainly another reason considering you would have to ship to the other end of the country in case of repairs.

There are proper channels to go through with E-Bay with sticky situations like this. Remember once the money leaves you, you’ve lost 90% of your leverage.

AJ,

Your SJ profile sez you live in Baltimore. Your addy for payment sez you live in Philadelphia. Why is this?

Your eBay offering stated that this was a new keyboard in the box under warranty. Your response to my question through ebay is that it is not new but in fact you are the first owner and it does not qualify for manufacturers warranty to a second owner. That takes away a large part of the value as far as I am concerned. I don’t ever want to buy a keyboard that is not under warranty. Had you been honest about it I would have never bid on it, and you will note that it never got a second bid from anyone else either.

Now you state thru eBay Question and Answer, that it is not new and won’t be warranted by the manufacturer but that you will warrant it from the East coast while I am on the west coast, because I would be the second owner.

That is not acceptable and I withdraw my bid because first of all you lied about the offering and second because you would not reply to any of our posts in the SJ. I was bidding on a NEW Roland G 70 keyboard in the box as you offered, not a used keyboard in the box as you now state you are selling.

I suggest you relist this keyboard for sale as a used keyboard without manufacturers warranty. Try a little honesty. That works too.

Bill,
I am just getting back from the NAMM, 2007 show and had no idea of what was going on on Synthzone during this period. After seeing what you have gone through below and posted, I am sorry you had to go through all of this.
When I posted the keyboard, I did so in good faith as NEW and clearly described I PURCHASED THIS FROM GC. I then followed your question on warantee and tried to get this answered from ROLAND and was informed it was valid to the first buyer. I listed the instrument as NEW because it is new (not used).
I however respect your decision to retract your bid (if you still feel this way). The warantee I accepted to honor was through me and you would only be responsible for shipping should the need be ...however, seeing as though you are all the way on the West and I am on the east, I understand your concerns.
Thanks and let me know what I can do to assist you in your final decision.
AJ

Thank you AJ,
I have no further interest in this keyboard without the manufacturers warranty.
I have purchased many NEW keyboards over the years and some were no problem and some had to go in for warranty repairs several times. I have never and will never purchase a used keyboard. I am a business man and not a gambler.
Thank you kindly for your understanding.
Kindly advise EBAY I am out of the loop. I do not want to create any problems for you there.
Best to you and yours,
Bebop

... and just a note on honesty ... I have done several sales on Ebay and described my products to the best of my capability and earned 100% possitive feedback in the process.

If there was/is a miss-communication in mt presentation, I am sorry it came across to you as being dis-honest; our business is based on honesty.

AJ

PS: I used to live in Baltimore (Edgewood) and now moved to Phili (4 months ago). I have NOT updated my SZ profile to date!!

thank you AJ for releasing my opening bid in your EBAY offering.
Now that we have a dialog going, I can understand how and why this problem developed. I accept my share of the blame as well and withdraw any comments I made in previous posts that reflect on your honesty. I am satisfied at this point that it was an honest mistake and a lack of communications that generated the down hill slope of this relationship.
Thank you for resolving the problem.
Best to you and yours,
Bebop

Both you guys have been here on this forum for more than 1/2 a decade. I'd trust you both in a financial transaction because I know you are both men of honor. I myself have always bought used gear and have never relied on manufacturer warranty. It hasn't ever been a big problem for me. I prefer to take the risk for a big drop in price. But that is a personal choice of course. It is always a gamble.

I like both BEBOP and AJ a real lot. You are both great guys and talented musicians. I'm glad you were able to reach a resolve.

Sorry to butt in, but 'new in box' is usually taken to be new in UNOPENED box, NOT 'used, in the box that it came in'.....

Even a store is obliged to inform the customer that a unit is a floor model (with warranty) if it came out of the box.

Hopefully, AJ will bear this in mind for future auctions.

Also note the 30% re-stocking fee (with purchaser responsible for shipping and insurance!) for a return.... That's a pretty hefty fee for a $2500+ keyboard. Cost you $750+ dollars just to try it!

Caveat emptor.....
