Hmmm. Over on the Arranger Forum I tried replying to a post, quoting from the original post. I got a message denying access to that feature. Was that part of the deal in denying participants the ability to delete posts?

Yes, sometimes it is hard to tell what NIgel is up to.
The harder it is will be to post here the les people will post. If that is the desired result then we're on the right track!

Eddie ... Are you sure you clicked on the "Reply with quote" and not the "Edit/Delete" option? I only ask because I have done that myself more than once ...

-ED- (3351) What's up with jumping on Nigel ?!?!? ... he has been and remains an EXCELLENT moderator ... The LAST thing he would try to do is make it difficult for people to post here !!!

It's working OK here on the north coast... must be a Florida thing, Eddie.

I tried deleting a post that I had started. I was removing some jpegs from my web page, so the reference to them in the thread would be redundant, so I attempted to delete the entire post and was denied permission to do that? So it seems up here in the Pacific Northwest, I'm experiencing something similar to Eddie.
This is not a shot at Nigel (that's something I would never do) I'm merely confirming that the situation does in fact exist.

Looks it the quote thing works after all.
No need to jump on Nigel yet.
BUt not allowing us to delete our own posts and threads is something that I'm personally not cool with.
DOn't take me wrong. THis is a great forum and NIgel is indeed a good moderator. COmparing to some Yahoo user groups where moderators do as they please this place is heaven.
But I see no real reason why I can't be allowed to delete my posts if I choose to.

Unless of coarse it is just another technical problem. After all there was this big hard drive crash.

Am I trippin' or has it just quoted Tony's post twice?

What up with that?

The double quote is like the result of double clicking the quote icon.

Okay..Okay. I found the problem.

The prescription for my eyeglasses expired.

I did, indeed, click on the wrong icon.

My apologies to all.

After asking people on the forums whether they'd like me to stop the ability to delete postings to avoid others deleting their threads the vote was to do just that. So now you can edit your posting but you cannot delete it anymore. It was to prevent the entire thread being deleted by the original poster. If I see any postings where the text has been completely removed then I will delete it myself. The only expeption is when it is the original posting which would cause the whole thread to be removed. Sorry for the inconvenience but that was the only way to stop people deleting other postings in the thread.

That is very fair.

Yes, it was a fair and democracy choice. We'd have the discussion in another thread started by Nigel himself.
So, the rules are made for eternity...
...or until the next choice!!!

And, by the way, I haven't have any problems with quotings or re-editing until yet...

Yes I think you were right Tony with your thought that the wrong button was clicked on. I have even made that mistake myself a couple of times. Nothing has changed with quoting from another posting, just deleting has been turned off.

Especially the episode where he's going in for his licence, and he asks Tony "What does a yellow light mean?"

I pissed myself laffin' at that one.

That line comes from the show where Alex was contemplating going to try to reunite with his daughter in Rio de Janiero ... The crew is trying to convince him to go:
Alex..."do you have any idea how far it is to Rio?"
Jim... "4,763 miles"
Alex ... "even if I went ... how would I find her ... do you have any idea how many people are in Rio?"
Jim .... 3,459,742 ...
Crew ... "Jim ... how did you know that? ...
Jim ... "You mean I was RIGHT?!?!?" ....
