I know my beer's in the fridge, but can I get a fresh one please bartender?
I'm on my way to record a friend's band at a local watering hole.
Because of the nature of the room, and lack of space, I'm figuring on going with overhead booms, plus 2 separate mics on each P.A. cabinet.
I'm really enjoying this D3200, and there's still sooooooo much to learn. I figured recording a band live under challenging acoustics, would be an interesting endeavour.

Do I have to stand at the bar, or can I join you at your table?

I hope all goes well for the recording. Have you considered taking a direct line from the PA to the recorder? I have had a friend coming out to record a couple of our band's gigs recently and we have been giving him a direct line out from the PA. The bass player also is feeding the digital recorder a direct line from a post EQ compression line out on his bass rig. The guitars of course are recorded from the amps speakers.

But recording everything live from speakers can work well if the mic placement is good. Doing a good live recording is always a challenge.

Hey Nigel....goood to talk with you again.
Needless to say, I've been up to my armpits learning the ins & outs (no pun intended) of the D3200.
I can appreciate what you suggested and I did consider D.I.ing out from each to the board, but I also wanted to pick up the ambient sound of the bar.
I put 2 on the drummer, picking up toms, snares & cymbals, plus one on his kick, Mic'ed the kb amp, guitar amp, and bass amp, plus took the vocal feed from the board.
Now comes the fun part...."mixing".
I did this for a friend, so it's basically up to them (the band) if they'll allow it to be posted.
All that aside, it was a great experience, and a big chunk out of the learning curve.

Now...where's that beer.
