Even 3 years later it still makes me crack up watching that baby shredding away. No matter what you think of his ability it is so very cool to watch. I still have fun with it.

This 9 year old is pretty fun to watch as well. It's good to see kids that do something constructive with their time !!!!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=b7e8vQT4hZA&feature=related

Fun stuff! I think you've got to give it to the kids for great effort. Of course, just playing memorized parts isn't really proof of in-depth ability, but it sure is a start. I'm teaching a very promising 9 year old now, and was performing in an Officers club in Fairbanks at age 10.

Believe me, what these youngsters lack in an underestanding of structure, etc. will come with time.

The majic of music! It sure changed my life (and got me laid in the process)!

Gotta love it!

Thanks, Nigel!

Tony, Ella Fitzgerald introduced be to Joe in 1963. He had just quit drinking and was religious (some thought obnoxious-going to jobs, etc.) about "converting" other musicians to a life of sobriety.

Sat in with him on upright somewhere in LA...can't remember much...sadly, I was 3/4 "in the bag" at the time.

One of my all-time favorite tunes, too!

Tony, the only problem is the self-induced "fog" that causes memory lapses now. I THINK I enjoyed the hell out of it!

I was thinking about this thread as I was driving down to NJ this weekend ... I was in awe of you (Russ) meeting Joe Pass, and then it struck me that you were introduced to him by ELLA FITZGERALD !!!!!

Russ is a very special guy. But it has nothing to do with the people he has met though that is awesome. Russ is special just because of who he is. Our good friend !!!!!
