I was born in 78. Didn't like the 80's music when I was a kid, don't like it now. I'm not just talking rock and pop, but I didn't like much of the country from that era either, with a few exceptions. It was the era of too many synths and electronic drums (yes, I said it at a synth forum, too many synths. lol) and too much saturating effects. Reverbs over the top, distortion/drive over the top, etc. Just never got into it.

Funny, how the synthesizer, was born here in the states, but was embraced in Europe. Where as Americans, prefer Guitar Rock. Also a lot of bands out of England, and Eruope played synthesizers, or had them incorporated with guitars. That's probabbly why KRAFTWERK is not big in the U.S.

David Byrne
Talking Heads
Van Halen
Rick Springfield
Dire Straits
Police
Phil Collins
INXS
Pink Floyd
Yes
Duran Duran
The Cars
ZZTop
Def Leppard
Aerosmith
Little River Band
Men At Work
Divinyls
Cheap Trick
Foreigner
Journey
Devo

and the list goes on .... yeah actually there were a lot of great pop rock acts in the 80s.
