Do they use a laptop adapter???? I noticed that the PSR-2000 has the same type of adapter my old Casio MZ-2000 had.. It looks just like the one I had on my laptop.. The reason I ask is because I'm seeing places where they're selling the damn adapter alone for $70.00 Geez! Why in the hell should someone have to pay $70.00 just to plug the damn thing in??? Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't both the PSR-1000/2000 only use the adapter, and don't take batteries? I'm saying this because I remember the PSR-740 didn't take batteries. $70.00 is just way too much to spend on an adapter.

You cant trust the LT batteries on stage.

The Keyboard adapter comes with the PSR2000. It's part of the package. However, there is a guy on eBay who sells the psr2000 without an adapter then wants $75 for the adapter. I suppose he takes the adapter out of the box when he gets them then tries to shoot up the cost. Any laptop you buy does come with an adapter... each adapter has different voltage so be careful when plugging these things in...

Yeah I've seen that ad on ebay too... If the unit comes with the adapter can he legally take it out and then charge you for it? Don't some come without adapters? I thought this was mentioned before. From my understanding (when I used to work in a music store), a retailer could not remove an item that was shipped with the unit, and then charge extra for it.

I guess it also falls down to what this person is charging for shipping too.. I took another look at his ad, and he has the buy it now option for the keyboard alone set at $875.00 That's a good price, and when you add the price of the adapter you come to $950, which is still a good deal. I wonder what his shipping cost is. I also wonder what the dealer cost is for this keyboard too...

Sorry Squeak,

The keyboard's power pack (adapter) for the psr-2000 is a 16-volt, direct current power pack--not a standard 12-volt DC power pack. Not only would it fry your LT, but additionally, it couldn't tollerate the additional drain if it were the correct voltage. When Yamaha built the 2000 it used a higher voltage adapter, probably so they could pump a few more watts out of the built-in amp and make it sound a little better. The guy who's sticking you for $70 for the adapter is really putting it to you. I bought a spare adapter for the 2000 and it didn't cost anywhere near that much.

As for using the same power adapter for both instruments, this would really be dumb, even if they had the same voltage output. The two should always be isolated from each other to prevent similtaneous failures and overloads.

Cheers,

Gary

Yeah he sure is sticking it to people.. From a legal stand point I don't see how he can remove it from the box and then charge you extra for it (if this is what he's doing)... It's like some of those small private convient stores that illegally sell individual cigarettes.. They'll open a pack, and will sell them to people that walk in for 25 cents a cigarette. That's $5.00 they make per pack and they rake it in big time for the carton.

I'd rather buy it for 969.99 from music123.com

http://www.music123.com/Item/?itemno=70491#rec_items

If you click on more info on that page it will display this. http://images.misupply.com/downloads/Yamaha/PSR2000_ADAPTER_NOTICE.pdf

I don't know if you open the box. Is it still new?

Hello...........Before I bought my PSR2000 in February I shopped eBay and saw that guy selling them without the adaptors. I gathered all the info about him I could and contacted Yamaha USA. Yamaha said that he was NOT an AUTHORIZED Yamaha dealer. He could buy these PSR2000's overseas legally where some do not come with the power supplies. There is a warranty on these but Yamaha USA does not honor them............"maybe" Yamaha Japan might. "Let the buyer beware"!
I took Yamaha's advice and did find an excellent deal from Music123.com
US dealers can often throw in freebies that can sometimes beat these lowballers. I got the survival and vocal kits free. -charley

I would definitely first ask one of the dealers on the forum like George Kaye or Dano for a competitive price on the PSR2000. If the price isn't competitive, I would go with Music123.com. Their price would include shipping, so overall you would pay less.

Several years ago, I purchased a PSR740 from this eBay member. As you might recall, the PSR740 didn't come with an adapter. I got the keyboard for about $800 plus shipping. The keyboard had a USA warranty card inside. When I needed a repair, I got free service at an authorized Yamaha repair center.

Nevertheless, it does appear that this dealer is taking the adapter out to make money off uneducated customers.

Maybe he used to be authorized and no longer is.
