One question though is there a better keyboard feel on the 9000? the 2000 keyboard felt real cheap and the keys are small! will propably purchase the 9000 unlesss the tyros is that much better ...
it doesnt seem the 9000 pro is worth an extra $1,500 although it has lots more sounds . any comments? Its hard for me to find these boards in the boonies.

In my opinion, the Tyros IS that much better. If you can afford it, go fot it.
PSR9000 weighs 50 pounds, so if you plan to carry it around much, take that into consideration.

I agree !

The 2100 is a very nice machine with great features for the dollar and nice sounds and styles, but it has a similar key feel to the 2000. The 9000 was a top of the line board when it was released and is still an excellent aranger, but I wouldn't compare it to the Tyros. Yamaha has made some big strides in a few years

mango. Key quality is important to me also so, If you don't like the cheap feel of the keyboard on the 2000 then Tyros is only marginally better, whereas the 9000Pro is 76 note and very good quality keys and feel but it is also much heavier if that is important.

Hey Mango,
I thought you were already to buy the 2100 two weeks ago--what happened?

And, while Graham and I agree on lots of issues, key feel and the overall number of keys is not one of them. As DNJ said, there has been lots of controversey over this one during the past couple years, and I guess it's just a matter of priorities. The first time I performed in front of an audience with a keyboard I quickly discovered that the main ingredient was the person doing the performing--not the key feel, not the key size, nothing other than the performer was important. I had a friend that used a casio, lots of midi files, and once in a while, actually played the keyboard. Additionally, he sang lots of great songs that everyone wanted to hear. His voice was not anything special, but he was a great entertainer. He was booked solid and always in demand--everyone loved his entertaining skills. I don't believe for one minute that the feel of those Casio keys made a tinker's damn to him, and obviously his audiences could have cared less.

The bottom line is it all depends on what you personally want from a keyboard--not what someone else feels is important. The only person you must completely satisfy in this endeavor is yourself.

Good Luck on whatever board you decide to purchase,

Gary

Stay with the newest model, Tyros. It does offer more in many areas. There is a reason it has become so much in demand. I have to say, If money will allow go to the top of the line, Tyros. Six months from today, the dollar difference will not matter.

thanks all,
Been trying to take advice and try before i buy. I have had a bad case of GAS and have made some mistakes in the cheaper is not always better category. I would like to purchase a board with features that will have some longevity. Keyboard feel is important to me because it makes it a pleasure to play, the psr 2000 did not feel like a "real instrument" . I do not play midi files when performing (unless they are backups i compose or samples, sound effects etc. so a good keyboard feel makes a difference. The old saying is true " that sounds kinda like a hammond" but nothing is like the real thing. I really liked the feature list on the psr 9000 compared to the 2000&21000 so i decided to get info on one of those. Looking for opinions on the tyros compared to the 9000 and pro . Yes keyboard weight is important, I've been lugging aroun an ensoniq ZR 76 (which is a great board!!) and i really would like a more portable instrument. I am interested in the styles and arranger functions and the sequencer and storage functions sound great for composition.

Mango,
For what it's worth, I giged with a 9000 Pro for a year and a half. Then I bought a PSR2100. Now, the 9000 Pro stays at home and gets played once or twice a month. The PSR2100 is what I play at my one-man-band jobs and with our 7 piece "Carolina beach band".

Hi. I've done half a dozen or so gigs (not to mention a full commercial CD) with the 2000, it's a real winner. Of course, the other choices you mentioned are winners as well, so it really boils down to a question of how much $ you'd like to spend. They're all excellent keyboards and will please any crowd you find yourself before.
