What a blast. Close to 200 people at the golf course about a mile from my house. With mountains in the background. A 50th anniversary for a friend.

I was so nervous setting up that I was about to have a heart attack. My friend's son-in-law got me a 7&7 (whatever that is) in a tall glass. I gulped it down. I set up and played a couple of tunes on the sax and lo and behold, I jumped on the keyboard and played and sang the whole three hours without a break. Not nervous at all. I didn't even notice what time it was. Out of everyone there, I was having the most fun. Hope I don't become a booze head after all these years.

Many there have been knowing me for over 20 years and had no idea I could play the sax etc. They really were shocked. I'm still getting compliments.

I need to get a place to gig more often. Even if its a coffee shop for coffee.

What was strange is everyone had at least a sports coat on. I bet 160 had ties on. It made me look real classy. You don't see that much anymore. Now It's thongs and shorts. That's even how some of the musicians around here dress while playing. What ever happened to class!!!???

Do you folks wear shorts to play at gigs? Do you wear ties? Do you wear sports coats?

I'm probably old fashioned, but I wear a sports jacket and dress slacks with dress boots at the least. If it's too warm, I'll take the jacket off. But no thongs and shorts for me to stand or sit and play for an audience.

Boo. Are you talking about foot thongs or those wedgy things Uncle Dave wears?

Hey Boo,

There's a big difference between Old Fashioned and Professional. Those of us that do this stuff for a living usually wear either a suit, sport-jacket or tux.

Thongs? Whoa!--not in this life. The only time the dress code relaxes for me is when I'm playing outdoor jobs and the temperature climbs above 80 degrees. When it hits 90, and the job is a pool party of cookout, I'm gonna' be wearin' shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.

Lookin' Good Mon'

A nice shiny black paisley or sparkle tuxedo vest is what I like best. It leaves your arms free to play, its cool, and still gives you that formal look if you wear a bowtie and tux shirt. Although in the hot summer depending on the gig, I'll wear a hawiian shirt at a BBQ, Picnic, Pollside event etc.I even have a great Tuxedo T-shrt!! The main thing is to look classy and proper for the venue your performing at.STAGE PRESENCE is part of the package!

Number one dress rule "always dress as nice as your customers/audience"..Boo to answer your questions from your email..Uncle Dave has to tell you about his thongs, the G can copy and paste, and I usually were suits and ties...

Boo, a "7&7" is Seagrams 7-crown and 7-up. I have not heard that one in a while but It used to be a very popular drink. Hangover city if you ask me----

Since I've started wearing a tux again almost every night, I'm working more and getting higher class jobs.
