I think it was more like Triton instead of Trinity?

I saw his past pictures at the triton forum.

I think I can appreciate where you're coming from. Notice I didn't comment on his musical compositions, but did comment on the talent of the musicians in his orchestra, most of whom were featured in one or more numbers. Believe me when I say the drum solo alone was almost worth the price of admission. But that was only a small portion of the total picture.

The improvisation by the musicians on the various standard as well as exotic instruments was truly amazing and inspiring. And yes, I'll be the first to admit that Yanni is a showman. In fact before I ever saw his concert I referred to him as the David Copperfield of music. Copperfield is another performer that uses a lot of fluff and glizt in his magic shows to entertain his audiences. But when that "glitz" is combined with real talent and top notch performances, I personally don't mind. (Just to let you know, I'm not a new-ager, but still thoroughly enjoyed the show.)

And, yes, Scott, I think you should check him out, especially since he's going to be in a neighborhood near you soon. If you're not impressed by the musical talent you hear and see, I'd be very surprised.

Yanni is like a hockey game ..... you GOTTA see it live. The energy, the theatrics, the powerful arrangements. It's a great concert.(he stands alot, by the way )

Say what you will about the comercialism of his music ... he's a player, and he puts on a terific show. the CD's don't even scratch the surface of the energy of a live show.

John Tesh is a Julliard grad, isn't he? What don't you like, Scott? I think he plays his butt off.

Though John Tesh studied with a teacher who taught at Julliard, he himself was never enrolled there.



Though I'm sure Tesh probably 'plays his butt off', I think Tony Mads comments about Yanni fitting to how I feel about Tesh's music as well:

I don't know about you guys, but I think you have to be more familiar with other kinds of music than the "western" music to appreciate Yanni's compositions.

I fell in love with his music more than 12 years ago, before I even knew his name. A friend gave me this tape and I loved the music and not till 3-4 years later till I realized this was some guy named Yanni.

I have to admit I like his earlier stuff more than the later, and the ACROPOLIS (sp?) album is my favorite of his work.


For his music to be featured at the last olymics here in Atlanta, has to mean something about his compositions though

I'm gald you had a great time Paul, as you know I wanted to go, but couldn't make it happen this time.

To Scott and Tony: When I heard Yanni first on a CD I thought the same as you guys.
Most of his CD's are made entirely on KB's.
They are kind of fluffy New Age music and better suited for Crystal healing as Scott said.

But as Paul and Uncle Dve said his Live shows are entirely different. Songs, energy, instruments, musicians etc.
Great fusion of Jazz, Classical and World music. And as Paul said his musicians are outstanding.

The closest you can get to a concert of him, is to see him perform on VHS or DVD. It's a lot of fun.

On his China /India concert he even invited some of the best singers I have heard.

Besides Triton, I belive he has one or more Kurzweil.
