I have never used or needed to use the transpose button, but, I decided to experiment with it. When I go from OTS settings to Reg Memory, it always goes back to the key of "C."

I know there has got to be an easy explanation for this, but I haven't found it as of yet. What's the missing link?

If Tyros is anything like 2K you need to press the freeze button and then press any registrartions/OTS and it will remember your transpose

Registrations have several options when you store them.
One of the options is 'Tune Trans'... if set to ON before saving it will remember both tuning and transpose settings.
You can re-save registrations with this parameter set to OFF.
I like this feature very very much, because each song in our songbook has it's own registration(s) and they contain style, variation, intro, voices, transpose, tempo and multipads..... all ready within 1 second.

It seems to me that on the Tyros/PSR3000 that the only way to save transposition is in the Reg Mem. Is that correct?

Another transpostition question. I just started working on singing. In the past I really didn't believe in using the transposer. It would sound funny to me. I suppose I can tell when I play a note and it doesn't sound like the actual key that I'm pressing. I did use it in the past when I'd play left hand keyboard and right hand trumpet (the kind you blow). I really didn't have any other choice as I didn't want to play in one key on the kb and one step up on trumpet.

Now as I experiment trying to find and work with what seems like a small singing range at the present, that I need to transpose. For a quick start I am using the transpose button, and while it works, I am wondering what you people think about the pro's and con's of using/not using that transpose button.

Is it really that much of a big deal? Is it just a matter of choice? Do any of you do it both ways, sing and play in the real key and also switch to using the transpose button.

I wonder what the long range advantages are to learning to sing play what' really written, rather than play a C and it really sounds F#. I guess what I'm trying to ask is what will that do to/for me while learning to sing on pitch better.

The only way you can save the transpose information is in a registration. Therefore, if you have saved a registration, that box that is marked Transpose must be checked. If not it will not save the information.

Now, as for using transpose--why not? I've always found it very easy to play any song in the key of "C" but there are only a few songs I can sing in "C". And, because the song is in my head--not on sheet music, it's not a problem. I know an enormous number of performers that use the transpose button, and most are singers. It just makes life a lot easier.

We transpose to fit the needs of the soloist or vocalist. And there are times when the song just sounds better in a specific key. A person who speaks or sings in a range that is to high or to low normally ends up with voice problems. Do not try find a key you sing in, but find the range your voice is comfortable in. They are not the same. Find your singing range (the highest note the low note you sing without straining) then applying that information to the song you wish to sing and that will give you the key you should play the song in.

I feel it is good learning to play the song in different key, this adds to your knowledge and ability to play the instrument. Using the transposing button can be an easy way to go, but it may not be the best way to go. If the key I need is C#, F#, B, or A major, I will use the transpose button. If the original is in the key of C major and I need to go to F# major, I will learn to play the song in G Major. If the song is in C Major and I need to go to Db Major I use the transpose button.

When you transpose a song to far (interval) the Acc. Does not sound as good, it losses something.
