This forum really appears to be degenerating into something of an old boys club populated by a small clique of crusty old souls, one of whom has taken it upon himself to display a holier-than-thou stance and, unfortunately, even Nigel, who threatened to remove a contributor's comments (well, I suppose it is 'your' site, sir) is seeming to side with him.

In a recent topic, "Adding a Sub", Ender4TrackMind, presumed to be a young person, as though that were some impediment, made some valid points in his/her posts which were quickly shot down with some rather caustic comments (the very 'crime' deemed to have been committed by Ender4TrackMind, but now without the threat of expulsion) by one of the aforementioned 'old boys club' members, who, for no more reason than having been playing for a greater length of time, makes the misguided self-assumption that that fact alone is qualification enough to make his opinion weightier than that of an assumed novice.

I'm no youngster myself at 61 and experience has taught me that something can be learned from anyone regardless of age, gender, etc., and to demonstrate otherwise is, at best, foolhardy and, at worst, displaying a staggering degree of ignorance.

Free speech is for everyone, young and old alike. Let's not forget that.

Guilty as charged.
I'm always open to new information, but sometimes it's hard to take seriously when presented in such a beligerent manner as was that message.
How about I keep my "mouth" shut unless asked?

What's a shame is that someone always tries to play the middle man. Let the boys play (or argue, as the case may be). I like reading all the input; it keeps my blood pumping - and even gets more people involved.

Maby I'm missing something, but I fail to see why civility and mutual respect in sharing ideas, experiences and technical
information shouldn't be the standard here.

I agree, Captain, but we can't always be civil. Sometimes that little button just gets pressed or someone's in a rotten mood, or someone's just rotten. In any case, we seem to get it straightened out in the end. In the meantime, the exchange of words and ideas is intriguing - IMO.

No worries, DonM. I've opened my trap a few times, too.

cassp, captain Russ: That's cool, free speech is the name of the game.

This, unfortunately, is the nature of the written word. Some people master it, most do not. Unspoken communcation is lost in written words thus readers will tend to personalize the words as Pompous, or arrogant, or angry, or whatever.

The bottom line is we are communicating and that's the most positive thing that happens around here even though we are all a bunch of old crusty coots.

I'm sure most of us have the purest of intentions in our sharing of knowledge. I know I do.
