Hello,

I wonder if anyone has any ideas about this. I just noticed my new PSR-3000 makes a very high pitched electrical noise. It almost sounds like that really high pitched sound a television makes when you first turn it on. The weird thing is, it stops when I turn the keyboard ON! I've unplugged it from the wall and it still makes the same sound.

Any ideas? Is it possessed?

Thanks,

Carrie

It could be James Sargeant of Yamaha is locked in there working on those Organ Registrations...!!!!

On a serious note. Your keyboard may be switched off, but is the mains adaptor still live with the mains plug still switched on ?.

My 3k mains adapter makes just such a noise whenever plugged in.

I get the same sound too. After I unplug it, the sound stops after few seconds. Had the same thing with 2k also..

Carrie,
I own the Tyros since about a week now and am happy Yamaha put the power-supply IN the keyboard.

Your 3k has an external supply, what implements the mains-voltage stays active and the supply keeps 'working', even when the PSR3000 switched off.
I expect the supply to be a 'switching' type and yes they make noise depending on the load they have to 'carry'.

Perhaps you could use 1 mains-switch for all equipment ? (with distribution block)

Yep, that sound comes from the external power adaptor. Mine disappears about 8 seconds after unplugging.

Unfortunately, when I switch my PSR on, yes the power adaptor stops whining, but the sound must get transferred to the mic input instead (heard nicely when the noise gate is switched off).

Cheers,
Rich

Thanks for all your help guys! It's great to hear it's just the stupid adaptor and not something wrong with the keyboard!!

Actually it's not just the PSR-3000 that does that. The adapter to my old PSR-540 and my 550 did the same thing. There was a little hum from the wall warts

My power adaptor does it too.

I couldn't sleep because of it the first day I had it, so I had to walk around my room to find where that noise came from

My PSR-2000 never made that noise.

Does anybody have a new Nokia phone charger? They make a similar noise. It must be some new kind of (probably cheaper than before) voltage transformer component that Yamaha and other manufacturers use.

Rather funny. The power adapter of my Roland EXR-7 also does a high-pitched noise. When I noticed it the first time I thought I'd forgot to turn off the keyboard .
