I've just concluded a wonderfully memorable time with Andrea Rotolo (Dreamer) over the last 3 weeks of his vist here in California, from Rome, Italy. This included showing him some of the local sites of the Berkeley-San Francisco Area (which included an Italian-American Street Fair in SF which included music by Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums: http://www.luckylounge.com/swingin.html , showing him our local Guitar Center Store ), sampling a wide assortment of California foods (chinese diem sum, fresh californian salmon, japanese sushi, indian mango lassi to brazilian & south american faire), hanging out & partying with friends, discussing culture & music, and most FUN of all, playing lots of music together (jamming). Andrea, being an avid bicycle enthusiast even helped me shop for a new bike (hybrid road/mountain type). I just posted (on my website) a short 40 second Movie Clip (Windows Media Player format) of Andrea & me informally playing together the Cole Porter classic: "Night and Day". It was recorded with my digital 'still camera' (Canon G2), not a video camera, so is quite limited in both video & audio quality, But I hope it still will give you a sense of what is was like jamming together. To view the video, go to my website: http://scottyee.com and then clik on the link to the "Song Demos" page. It's also been great finally meeting in person, Synthzone members: Bebop, Clif, Tom, & Andrea, and I hope I have the opportunity to eventually meet other forum members (in person) as well. I realize how difficult it's going to be to plan my next vacation now, because it's going to be hard to decide which Country/State to visit, because I really want to meet so many of you. Scott

Dirk (Notlos): Yes, Andrea & I both had a blast making music together. It was so cool to be able to just 'start playing (jamming)' the moment we met (with no prior rehearsal) and and make some pretty decent sounding music. We seemed to click musically from the start, both playing/singing classic standards like: Girl From Ipanema, Arreverderci Roma, Meditation, Just the Way You Are, Beatles, Latin, & Blues tunes, Misty, I Left My Heart in SF, and Route 66, just to name a few. I think we both learned a lot from each other during our time together. I showed him the jazzy rootless chord voicings (which he can now subsequently play on his SD1 ). I was impressed how he was able to pick up on the harmony of most tunes pretty quickly (by ear). This has encouraged me to focus now on improving more in this area as well. One thing both Andrea & I noticed right away: After hearing each other perform live for each other, and then comparing it to our MP3 recordings posted on the web, it became 'immediately' evident that compressed MP3s do NOT do justice to the original performance. Mp3's really kill the spark & excitement (rhythmic groove that breathes) present originally. I remembered hearing some of Andrea's MP3 tunes over the internet thinking they sounded good (but not great), but now hearing them played live by him (in person), they now sounded terrific, like "Night & Day", (oh yeah, yet another song we enjoyed playing together). Dirk, realizing what a jazz/latin afficiado & excellent kb player you are, I hope to someday have the priviledge of meeting and possibly playing music with you too. I think we really need to organize a European Synthzone get together now. I need an excuse to finally travel to Europe, or how about Brasil, Mexico, Louisiana, NJ, Alaska, FLA, Santa Barbara, LA, etc etc. Scott [This message has been edited by Scottyee (edited 07-01-2002).]
