1"s~~=/2!89HR-16:B INSTRUCTIONS  PATT (Pattern) - 100 patterns (00 - 99) from 1 to 682 beats each. SONG - 100 chained patterns (00-99) with 1 to 255 steps in each sound. DEMO Press and hold PATT, press PLAY. RECORD 1. Select PATT button : LED will light. 2. Use KEYPAD or + and - buttons to select a pattern. 3. Set quantize value. Hold QUANT, use KEYPAD or + and - buttons to set value. 4. Hold RECORD button and press PLAY. LEDs will light. A 8 beat pattern (changeable : see LENGTH) will star recording with 2 clicks sounding per beat (changeable : see CLICK). Recording will loop continuously. 5. Tap desired pads (sounds) and rythms. 6. Pressing STOP or PLAY will end recording, while pressing PLAY will commence playback from the beginning. PLAY 1. Select SONG or PATT : LED will light. 2. Select song number using KEYPAD. Select pattern number using KEYPAD or + and - buttons. 3. Press PLAY button to start. 4. While playing a pattern the KEYPAD or + and - buttons can select next pattern, which will play at the end of the previously selected pattern. 5. Press the STOP/CONTINUE button to stop. Pressing STOP/CONTINUE again will continue playback from the beginning of the beat it was on when stopped. In SONG, when stopped , use the + and - buttons to scroll to any desired step. Press STOP/CONTINUE to start playback on that step. In SONG or PATT, pressing PLAY will always start the selection from the beginning. STEP EDIT MODE 1. Press and hold PATT then press RECORD. 2. Use + button to advance forward in the current quantize and swing value (See QUANTIZE and SWING) 3. If more than one drum exists on the same beat, you will step through each before advancing to the next step. 4. To add a new drum to a displayed step, press a drum button. 5. To erase a displayezd drum from a step, hold ERASE and press RECORD. 6. Volume can be edited on an existing step by using the KEYPAD buttons., or if the displayed drum is replayed. SONG EDIT AND CREATION 1. To create anew song, in song mode, select desired song number. 2. Hold INSERT. Select desired pattern using KEYPAD or + and - buttons. Press RECORD : Step01 becomes the selected pattern. Repeat for step 02, etc.. INSERT, DELETE, OFFSET (Replace) and TEMPO are available as edit functions. 3. To insert a step between two already existing steps, press INSERT, select the pattern to be inserted, press RECORD. The new step is inserted at the previously displayed step and moves all subsequent step ahead by one step. 4. To replace a step, hold OFFSET, select new pattern, press RECORD. This will replace the previously displayed step. 5. To erase a step, use + and - buttons until the step to be erased is displayed. Hold DELETE and press RECORD. TEMPO 1. To change tempo in PATT mode, press TEMPO, select value using KEYPAD, + and - buttons, or SELECT slider. Not storable in PATT mode. 2. To insert tempo changes in SONG mode, press SONG and select song number. Select desired step for tempo change (Original song tempo should be stored in step 01). Hold INSERT, press TEMPO, select tempo value using KEYPAD or + and - buttons. Press RECORD. 3. To change overall tempo in SONG mode, while retaining programmed tempo changes, press TEMPO, use SELECT slider to change percentage of overall tempo. QUANTIZE To set quantize value (PATT mode only), hold QUANTIZE button, use KEYPAD and + or - buttons to set value. Current quantize value only effects newly recorded drum events. VOICE NOTE: Voice, tune and mix assignments are stored in each pattern. To assign a different voice to the click or to a drum pad, press VOICE (comes up on CLICK, unless previously in MIX or TUNE mode for a drum pad.) Press desired drum pad. Using + and - buttons, KEYPAD, or the SELECT slider, choose the new sound. To store, hold RECORD and press VOICE. TUNE To assign a different tuning, press TUNE, press desired drum pad, select tuning with SELECT slider or + and - buttons. MIX To assign OUTPUT, VOLUME and PAN, press MIX. Press desired drum pad. KEYPAD buttons 1 and 2 control which set of stereo OUTPUTS are used. The SELECT slider controls the VOLUME, and the + and - buttons control the PAN position. To store, hold RECORD and press MIX. COPY In PATT mode : 1. To copy a whole pattern to itself or to another pattern, hold COPY, select destination pattern number from KEYPAD or + and - buttons, press RECORD. First pattern is appended to the end of second pattern. If you copy a pattern to itself, it will be twice as long. 2. To copy a single drum pad rythm to another drum pad, hold COPY, press source drum pad, press destination drum pad, press RECORD : 1st drum pad is now merged onto the 2nd pad. You can copy one pad in one pattern to another pad in a different pattern by selecting the destination pattern before selecting the source and destination drum buttons. In SONG mode : 1. To copy a whole song to itself or to another song, hold COPY, select destination song number with KEYPAD or + and - buttons, press RECORD. First song is appended to the end of second song. If you copy a song to itself, it will be twice as long. ERASE In PATT mode : 1. To erase a whole pattern, select PATT number, hold ERASE, press RECORD. 2. To erase a single drum from a pattern, hold ERASE, press desired drum button. 3. To erase single drum beats from a pattern, enter record mode by holding RECORD and pressing PLAY. Hold ERASE. Press the corresponding drum button on the beat you want erased or hold down the drum button as desired. Drums will only be erased hat occur on the current quantize and swing settings. In SONG mode : 1. Select song to be erased, hold ERASE, press RECORD. LENGTH In PATT mode only, hold LENGTH, use PATT button to select top (beginning) or end of pattern. Use KEYPAD or + and - buttons to select new length. Press RECORD. OFFSET 1. In PATT mode only, to offset a whole pattern, select PATT and desired pattern, hold OFFSET, use + and - and/or KEYPAD buttons to select value, press RECORD. 2. To offset a single drum button, hold OFFSET, press desired drum button, select offset value using + and - or KEYPAD buttons, press RECORD. 3. In SONG mode, the OFFSET button serves as an editing function to replace a step of a song (See SONG EDIT AND CREATION). SWING In PATT mode only, hold SWING, select value using + and - buttons. The SWING button has no function in SONG mode. FILL Select quantize value for FILL value (See QUANTIZE). In playback and record modes, hold the FILL button. Hold desired drum button. Fill occurs at the current quantize and swing values. TAPE and MIDI DATA STORAGE Hold TAPE, use + or - buttons to select type of save or load. Use KEYPAD buttons to select PATT or SONG number (when needed). Press RECORD. Press STOP/CONTINUE to cancel function. MIDI UTILITIES Press MIDI/UTIL.. Select the desired function using the SELECT slider. Then use KEYPAD and/or the + and - buttons to slect choice or value. 1. SET MIDI CHANNEL. Determines the receiveing and transmitting channel, with OMNI transmitting on channel 1 and recieving on all channels. 2. RECEIVE MIDI DRUM NOTES. Determines whether or not incoming MIDI notes should trigger the drum pads. 3. TRANSMIT MIDI DRUM NOTES. Determines whether or not HR-16 drum events should be transmitted out MIDI. 4. SET MIDI NOTE. Used to assign a specific MIDI note to each drum pad. Select pad and enter value. 5. MIDI ECHO. Used to echo any MIDI data received at the MIDI input to the midi output. 6. MIDI PROGRAM CHANGE. Used to allow MIDI program change commands to select pattern numbers. Not active in SONG or PATT playback. 7. CLOCK SOURCE. Determines what clock will drive the HR-16 : MIDI AND INTERNAL, INTERNAL ONLY or TAPE SYNC IN. 8. MIDI CLOCK OUT. Used to turn on or off the ability to transmit MIDI clocks. 9. AUTO START. Used to turn on or off automatic starting of a pattern or song with a MIDI start or tape sync signal. 10. CLICK VALUE. Used to set the metric value of the click. 11. CLICK IN PLAY. Used to turn on or off the click while playing a pattern or song. 12. MANUAL VOICE/TUNE/MIX. Used to disable any programmed voice assignment, tuning and mix settings so that all patterns and songs play with the current assignments. 13. PAD DYNAMICS. Used to select the response of the drum pads. 14. SONG LOOP. Turns on or off song looping. 15. SYSEX ENABLE. Allows the HR-16:B to transmit or recieve Sysex data. CLEARING MEMORY Turn power off.
