How do I load Wavecards? A. Loading RY30 Wavecards is quick and easy. 1. Insert card in the WAVE SLOT. 2. Press [UTILITY]. see UTL 01:Load Card? Voice _ 3. Press [INC] see UTL 01:Load Card? Voice & Seq 4. Press [ENTER] twice. Pad Banks 12, 13, 14, and 15 are automatically loaded with the various drum voices and a Demo will be loaded into Song 00. Patterns will be loaded into the first pattern locations starting at pattern 00. The ARTIST SERIES cards feature samples of the artist at his Yamaha Drum kit with a song and patterns by that artist triggering an RY30. Using the patterns done by the artist is literally "like getting Dave Weckl or Tommy Alderidge to play on your tune". The patterns can be freely cut and pasted and altered to the users delight. Q. What's available for the RY30? A. As of this date (end of Nov.91) : W3001-Percussion; W3002-FXdrums; W3003-House/Rap; W3004-Dance/Soul; W3071-DAVE WECKL; W3072-TOMMY ALDRIDGE; W3073-MATT SORUM; W3074-PETER ERSKINE. In addition any of the waveform cards for the SY/TG 55 and 77 can be read by the RY30. There are also DATA TAPES available each with new voices, 100 patterns and demo songs: RY30 London Dance Collection; and one by legendary drummer DAVE GARIBALDI. Q. I want to use the RY30 with an external sequencer. What will I lose when I transfer patterns from the RY30 to my computer? A. Absolutely NOTHING!!! All of the RY30's wheel functions are transmitted via MIDI and will playback in via MIDI so it makes an ideal tone module for an external computer sequencer. HINT: When setting the transmit channel (Utility-MIDI 03) for ALL drum voices remember to hit [ENTER] to register the change of transmit channel. Q. How do I build custom PAD BANKS? A. 1. Press [PAD BANK] 2. Press [PAGE +]. Touch a Pad to view the voice currently assigned to that Pad. 3. Use the [INC]/[DEC] buttons or the Data Entry slider to change assigned voices. This procedure can be done during RECORD. Pressing PAD BANK temporarily defeats Recording; pressing [EXIT] will return you to record. This gives you a way to preview voices before recording. Q. How do I overdub wheel parameters? A. There are actually 4 different record modes. Here's how to parameter record. 1. Press [REC] 2. Press [INC] twice to call up PARM (parameter rec) 3. Set the wheels slider to PAN, DECAY, PITCH etc. 4. Touch the pad with the sound you want to alter. Its name will appear on the screen. 5. Press [START] and wiggle-the-wheel. HINT: You can erase just the parameter overdubbed simply by holding [CLEAR] as it loops by in PARM REC. Q. I've mistakenly edited a voice how do I get the factory voice back? A. Copy it from ROM (Preset) memory. Here's how: 1. Touch the Pad with the edited voice 2. Press [VOICE EDIT] 3. Press [PAGE] (the one next to zero) 4. Press 1, 5 (to call up VoiceEdit page 15 COPY) 5. Use the Data entry slider to find the Preset voice. (Capital letter "I" is Internal; "C" is Card; "P" is Preset). If voice I73 CongaLo was the offending voice we will want to COPY P73 to I73. 6. When you have positioned the correct Preset Voice to be copied to the Internal press [ENTER] twice. To reload ALL PRESET voices: 1. Press [UTILITY] 2. Press [PAGE] 0, 4 SYSTEM? 3. Press [ENTER] 4. Press [PAGE] 0, 5 Load Preset? 5. Press [ENTER] twice. Q. Somebody messed up all my voices, all the names, everything; how can I reset to Factory settings? A. Hold down 6 and Stop/Continue as you turn on the RY30 and answer YES to the RY30 ALL CLEAR? question. Q. Can I event edit? A. Of course, this is a function of STEP RECORD, here's how: 1. Press [REC] 2. Press [INC] for STEP record 3. Press [START] you can now scroll thru the events with the <- -> cursor arrows. To change the current instrument viewed HOLD [INST CHANGE] (the SPACE key) and touch a Pad. You must hold [INST CHANGE] down to avoid step recording. To change the quantize value simply touch the [PAGE] button and use [INC]/[DEC]. Notice that above the numeric keypad the words VELOCITY, PITCH, DECAY, PAN, FILTER, BALANCE - with these you select the type of data to be edited. Use the Data entry slider or [INC]/[DEC] buttons to change the values. Q. How do I change Quantize without exiting RECORD MODE? A. While in REC press the [PAGE] button and use [INC]/[DEC] to change quantize value to 1/8, 1/16, 1/32, 1/12, 1/24, 1/48, or 1/96.
