** GIG-MASTER, Version Y2.D 8/26/95 ** EVALUATION DEMO (C) Copyright 1995 - By:John Depko - All Rights Reserved Gig-Master is an easy to use Voice File Management program that can extract voices from .A1V, .A1S, and .A1A files created on the Yamaha W5/7 Series Midi Workstations. As powerful a these amazing synthesizers are, file management tasks, such as renaming voices, assigning Voice Catagories to voices, and arranging voices within and between banks can be tedious to say the least. (Ever wonder why the Internal voices are so jumbled. Well now you can sort them out, and reload!) What could take you hours on a W5/7 can be done in seconds with Gig-Master! Before going to a Gig, create a file that contains all of the patches you will need, IN THE ORDER YOU NEED THEM IN! No more fumbling with disks on stage, with the rest of the band watching you. (Along with the entire audience.) With Gig-Master you can load multiple banks of 128 voices, and copy, paste, compare, sort by catagory or name, rename, re-catagorize, remove duplicate voices, and save to your own .A1V files with just a few keystrokes. On the average 640K system, you can load more than 10 banks at once. (That's more than1280 Voices at ONCE!!!) Gig-Master will read .A1V files directly, or can extract the sounds from any .A1S (Song+Voice) and .A1A (All Data) files. (Wait 'til you get to see the fun you can have with the demo file that came with your keyboard.) Register soon so you can take control of that amazing keyboard and make some great tunes! In this demo version, all functions are intact with the exception of the SAVE file option. All files created with this evaluation copy of Gig-Master will have the same name and program information. GIG-MASTER, Ver. Y1.00 PAGE 2 INSTRUCTIONS To get started, copy all of the files on the distribution disk to a directory on your hard-drive, or decompress the files if you received Gig-Master as an archive. (I recommend C:\GIGMASTR. This is the path that is setup in the PIF file that is supplied with the program, in case you plan to run it under windows.) Once the files have been copied, change to the directory containing the Gig-Master files: EXAMPLE: "CD \GIGMASTR" Then Type "GIGMASTR" Refer to your DOS manual for additional information If you wish to run Gig-Master under windows (I have had success with it), the distribution disk will contain bith a .PIF (Program Information Fle), and an .ICO (Icon file) for use with windows. If you do not install Gig- Master to "C:\GIGMASTR" you may have to change the .PIF settings using PIFEDIT. Refer to your MS Windows(c) manual for more information. Getting the program running shouldn't be too difficult. If you have any trouble, you can probably find one of your Computer-Guru friends to help you out. Once the program is running, you will see some Title-Screens, then the program will load a default .A1V file, and present you with the Main Menu. GIG-MASTER, Ver. Y1.00 PAGE 3 MAIN MENU OPTIONS From the Main Menu, you will have the following options: L - Load file: Allows you to load a file (.A1V, .A1S, or .A1A) file to any of the 7 banks (0-6). Just follow the directions on the screen and you're off. D - Directory: Lists the files in the current Gig-Master directory, or enter a full path to see files in another directory. (Use wildcards as you would in DOS - Ex:C:\W5FILES\*.*) W- Write File: Once you are all done dicing and slicing your files, use this option to save your work to a new file. (Gig-Master only saves to .A1V files! Copy these files to a 3.5"-DD disk, and you can load them into the INTERNAL or SONG Voice Banks on your W5 or W7. Refer to your W5/7 manual for instructions on loading files.) If a Song+Voice File (.A1S) was loaded at any time during the session that contained Internal elements, you will be asked if you want those elements incorporated into the saved file. This is required if any of the voices in that file utilize those internal elements. Remember - the demo version's WRITE feature is disabled. V - View Bank: Once you have files loaded into several banks, you can use this option to select which bank is currently displayed on the screen. (After a file load, the bank loaded to will automatically display.) Some features (Such as "W-Write File", "CN-Change Name", and "CC-Change Catagory") will automatically apply to the currently viewed bank, while most others can involve any bank, regardless of which bank is being viewed. P - Print Bank: Prints the currently viewed Bank to the printer. (It can be usefull to plan out your editing strategy on paper first. This is also a nice way to keep a hard-copy of the voices within a file. No more searching for the voice you want.) S - Sort Bank: My Favorite feature!!! Sort the voices in a bank by Catagory, or Alphabetically by name!!! CN - Change Name: This option allows you to edit the Name of a Voice, much more quickly than you can on the synth itself. CC - Change Catagory: Allows you to assign a new catagory to a Voice. (Refer to your keyboard Manual for information on Voice Catagories.) CV - Compare Voice: If you have two voices with the same name, this option will tell you if they are truly identical. (Any difference between the voices, even very minor differences will be result in a Non-Match!) GIG-MASTER, Ver. Y1.00 PAGE 4 T - Thin Dupes: Compare the voices in one bank to those in another, and delete any voices that are identical. Can also compare voices to others in the same bank. ( Great feature! ) C - Copy Voice: Copy a voice from any bank/voice-position to any other bank/voice-position. Very easy and very fast. CB - Copy Bank: Copy ALL voices from one Bank to another. (A time saver!!!) CR - Copy range: Copy a selected range of voices from one bank to another. (Good tool for arranging voices into separate files by category!) DK - Drum Kits: Displays Drum-Kit information. Drum Kits are loaded from A1V files ONLY! All files saved will contain the Drum-Kits that were in the LAST A1V file loaded. E - Exit: Nah...you won't use this option much. NOTES: Before loading a file into your keyboard, make sure all 128 voice locations contain valid data. (Locations that have been deleted or thinned are still valid. Only the names and catagories have been changed.) If you want to change the colors used for the display, you can type the word "COLOR" at the Main Menu prompt. If you want to permanently change the colors used, use the file included with Gig-Master named "GIGCONFG.EXE". GIG-MASTER, Ver. Y1.00 PAGE 5 GIG-MASTER - Copyright 1995 John E.
