One of the things I quickly discovered is you have to find out the name of the AD, otherwise all of your items either faxed or mailed, would never reach them. The easiest way I found was to merely make a simple telephone call, which put you through to to receptionist. Then I would say "Hi, this is Gary Diamond of Travlin Easy Productions. We are updating our data base of retirement communities, assisted living centers and nursing homes in Maryland. I just need to verify your mailing address, number of beds and the name of your activity director." I would then read off what I already had on file, which was the facility name, address and phone number, then ask for the ADs name and extension if any. Worked like a charm. Now I had a person to communicate with directly, either by fax, mail or in person. And, you compiled a great data base of facilities, which I updated every year.

Of course, when I visited in person, I always brought the goodies, my calendar, a free calendar for him or her, pens, and a CD. However, a video would also go a long way, especially on You Tube or in a DVD form. When they can see you in action, your chances of landing that job go up dramatically.

Good luck,

Gary cool
