Time to catch up !

What are you using gear wise for "live" applications ?

Will powered monitors such as JBL, EV , Yamaha etc.....replace keyboard amps one day ?

It seems like many of us are using laptops in a live situation . How powerful of a laptop do you need ? Cost ?

DanO, I recently purchased a HP high end laptop running XP. After 5 days of trying to run my music applications-un successfully], I thru in the towel and stayed with my old laptop-CTX pentium 2, 200mx with built in midi interface,12 gig HD...As they say "if it ain't broke don't fix it"

I recently became a Crest Audio dealer and ordered a few powered speakers similar to the JBL EONS . Crest is made by Peavey and I will try these powered 10" speakers on the next gig . Have you ever tried Crest Audio products ?

What are you using anyway ? dano

I suppose it depends on what you use the laptop for. I use an old 386 laptop running Win 3.1 just to send sysex to the PSR-740 via the serial port and 'to host' connector. This enables m e to get all the effects that can't be got via the keyboard. After all, there's effectively an MU100 sitting in the keyboard (16 parts only though) so I might as well get my money's worth. Also use a Sony 100W amp and homebrew speakers. The amp is very light as it uses a pulse power supply and the speakers are bookshelf size. All very portable.
