I like to experiment... and my last post, yesterday took me by surprise as I find it one of my favorites... As a lot of you hated it. However, even if you listen to my original CD http://www.chipos.com/beachbum/cd.html
You'll say he sounds like sting... I get that all the time. Although, this is my bread and butter... If you hire me you get this stuff with allot of 80's music... I was going to do every breath you take, but that one is to easy... Did this one in one shot like "coffee song." As I said I could do police and sting stuff all night... The shame is I won't ever be original... Tony in the UK. You've got that over me
if this sucks then I'll put my keyboard on ebay and cancel my future gigs.. http://www.chipos.com/beachbum/Wrapped.mp3
Thanks,
DJ

PS This has no originality to it... It' just a cover.

Dj,
Very nice and much more suited to your vocal stylings. Very cool music and your voice is right for this cut. Nice mix and playing probably the best I've heard you do yet all around. We should get you pissed off more often....it brought out the best in you.

Yes, ok - abiding by Terry's sensitivity-course prescribed parameters and the reaction we got from trying to be objective before - I listened to your tunes and I'd have to say that on a scale of 10 to 10 I'd give it a 10. Hope that helps...

DJ, this song is much more fitting of your voice and style. I think in a live setting, both songs would sound just great. But if I might make an observation that I feel is common to all of us common singers. We each have certain quirks to our voices and styles - this si what makes us unique. But what separates us from the real good singers is our ability to throw out much of our styling to get that clean, recorded style. I think this is what I hear in your voice. The recorder forces us to listen only to you and in doing so, the listener picks up on those personal voice qualities. In a live live situation they are great, but in a recording I hear a tendency to over-exagerate some words, which causes criticism. No harm meant, just an observation from someone who so far has known better than to put his (?good) voice on record. Merry Christmas.

Thanks for having the guts to share your music with us DJ. Not everybody on the SZ is willing to do so. I know for me it was a bold step but one in which I was willing to take.

I had a listen to Wrapped and I really enjoyed it. Your voice does have a Rock genre type sound to it. You have quite a vocal range which is to your benefit. As others have pointed out when singing the higher notes you sometimes have a tendency to over emphasize certain words which could draw attention away from the song as a whole. But don't let discouragement get a hold of you because you would be surprised at how many world class and famous singers have had a rough go of it only to find that after much practice, Vocal training, and in the most important thing of all, getting out there and singing before an audience which is where the rubber meets the road and provides the much needed experience of practical application, those previously infamous singers over time became what they are today or in their time, ie., "World class and World famous singers". Your voice has that special quality that if harnessed you could go a long way and the sky is the limit as to what you could attain.

Merry Christmas!
Best regards,
Mike

Jim,
One of the two of us has to act like an adult, so I guess I will.

You'll never be mistaken for Merle Haggard, but I like it! I'm glad you posted this.

Thanks for the response and for giving the tune a listen... At least this one did not upset anyone..

Terry thanks, for me these songs are easy to do, while I'll continue to experiment with stuff I'm not suppose to do. That's where the fun is.

Pro, thanks for going lite on me,(I thought it was pretty funny) I can take criticism, as I do want to get better, just not, "Your backside has quite a voice" Or that kind of thing.

cassp, No harm taken at all you've got some good points...

Mike, Nice post, thanks for the encouragement...

and Don, You've put to much time in for me. Thank you for the yesterday's posts and for this one..

Merry Christmas Guys,
DJ

I too enjoyed your polished cover rendition of Sting's "Wrapped Around Your Finger", but personally prefer your other song material even more, possibly because I can associate them as your own 'personal' renditions of other tunes and not Sting, but 'YOU'. I hope you continue working on developing & defining your style, though heavily influenced by Sting, distinguishing it as your very own. Happy holidays pal. - Scott
