I've added a clip of a song to my site, i've tweaked vocal and keyboard settings and recording settings all dang morning, not sure if to any avail or not! please take a listen if you care to, and see if Bie Mir Bist du Schon recording is a little more clear on the vocals, with not as much reverb/echo. I'm still having to record this all in one take, so not alot of "frills" added on . . . one source of confusion for me>> on the tutorial site, when it says to hit direct access key and effect, the screen shot shows on the bottom where you can turn the "dial" down on mic echo/reverb - mine doesn't show that - in the same location, it shows a muted out dial with "cmprs" for compressor above it. What gives here, how lost am I?? thanks in advance, here a link to the music page . . . http://mysite.verizon.net/res7wnt5/id11.html Jill

thanks for listening guys - it does sound clearer to me too this time around. I appreciate the compliments, and please don't ever hesitate to give suggestions that you believe would help me! Scott - I own a 2100, and am using the men's choir for the vocal harmony choice - the womens choir sounds so phony to me!! I'm finding that when I'm doing a song that is mostly vocals, i don't like a "heavy" style, with too many instruments in it. I tweaked the big band style I used, removing and toning down a few things for it. Bill - very strange on the panning thing thru the headphones?? I tried listening with my headphones, but didn't get that effect at all. Actually, i have many of you to thank for helping me understand the arranger process - i put the song together on a reg bank - never would have been able to do that alone!! Jill

hey jill, pretty nice result, but i have a few suggestions if you dont mind me saying..... on this song i would recommend you drop the reverb level on your vocal and bring your pre- delay down to around 20ms, this can help to make the vocal more prominent, also try panning all your instruments a little further...rule of thumb, run vocals and drums centre and try to eq the main vocal and kick/snare (but keep away from anything sub 250h on the vocal though) so they match reasonably closely...the backing vocal imho is too loud and could also do with a lot less reverb..you could also try to pan the backing vocal either left or right, or ideally if you can run some left and right..say about 75% in each case...also the (and this is prob the nasty little harmonizer in the yammi board....whoeeee! wont that generate a comment ) harmonies are eq'd way too close to the brass/reeds so that thaey actually clash..you need a bit more "air" in the backing vocal which can be achieved by tweaking eq at around th 8k to 16k frequencies...its a pretty good effort for your early attempts at this keyboard arranger stuff, and, once again, imho, you are certainly on the right track.. oh btw, golden rule of mixing...NEVER do pre-mastering or final mixing with headphones, always with monitors.. hope this helps. cheers dennis [This message has been edited by manic2257 (edited 07-29-2005).] [This message has been edited by manic2257 (edited 07-29-2005).]
