Behringer's rep stems from quite a few products that had cold solder joints a few years back and they did not hold up on the road. I remember people swearing Behringer gear off. They also have taken to producing a large number of very obvious copy-cat products in the past couple of years, and apparantly they lost a suit brought by Roland in the case of some effects pedals. This all gave them a sleezy rep. Personally I've owned and used Behringer EQ's, effects and I currently use one of their mixers today - none of them have ever given me cause to complain but I use it in my studio and not on the road because of what I heard.
Peavey is generally the entry-level gear for lots of starting musos and churches. It's solid stuff and it works. I can't remember any of it failing either for me personally (long ago) or for my customers when I worked at a music store. JBL speakers just sound sooo much better but we already knew that.
The problem with both Peavey and Behringer is that there's very few MI stores I've been to that don't carry their stuff and it's in all the online stores/catalogs, which means you'll be lo-balled to death on price. But if you want to sell gear to the masses then it's probably the stuff to go with.

Frankie, you can make money with the Peavey line..They don't tolerate giving the product away..I think they want you to discount a max of 20%...They use to have protected market areas, but that seems to not be the case anymore..Be prepared to have a lot of unhappy customers with the Behringer line..some of the stuff seems ok, but overall..I don't know.. Samson is SamAsh..I guess they don't have a store near you..or you wouldn't see the rep...No better than other[no name]brands..
I would look into Yorkville Sound..Probably the best out there[famous 2 year even if you break it warranty and 10 year parts], along with EV and Mackie..

Over the past few months I have bought two different lower end Behringer mixed. One for my at-home setup and one for my on-the-road live setup. I am very pleased with both and found they hit price/feature points well. I bought them both at GC.
I think the behringer equipment is fantastic for the money. As someone said, it is not the best you can get....far from it, but their prices and wide range of equipment make them a brand that we deal with quite regularly in business. No unhappy customers yet, and plenty of customers pleased with their purchases.
The likes of the firebird amp, has got great reviews for the money.
All in all, I would say they are a good company to be able to offer to the budget conscious customer.
