nardoni, the psr tutorial is for the 3000, which already has a USB port. I was interested in an adapter or something that could be used with the PSR2000 or other floppy drive, non USB instruments. Thanks anyway

The 1gig drives have dropped down in price. Office Max is advertising at $49. Will anything this large work?

Another missed opportunity by Yamaha U.S, i.e. "Steve Deming" to answer relevant questions regarding his company's products to people who own his company's products, e.g. - you and me.

PS: You may want to re-think your, and or, your "company's" tactics regarding third party Forums, i.e. (not necessarily Yamaha authorized) when it comes to legitimate questions regarding Yamaha's products Steve.

In other words; don't be a stranger, stranger! Ya' hear? Enlighten us Steve!! >> Will a 1 GHz Thumb Drive work with the 3K? Taking into consideration that the Thumb Drive doesn't require a Hub driver to work like the Lexar Jump Drives, which don't either.

Note: The reason I said "re-think" your policy is because when the mice are away (speaking of Yamaha) the "cats" will 'play' (in this case the Roland G70, the Korg Pa1X/PRO, the Ketron Midjay, or any other non-Yamaha Arranger, etc.).

Does Yamaha want this?

Maybe Yamaha considers the SZ a second class Forum with second class Yamaha customers because it is not a Yamaha 'authorized' Forum? And whose questions aren't really worth the time and effort to answer on a consistent and timely basis because of it?

I im sure they make a female to male cord just for that reason so it wont fall out.

My opinion is it WILL work Jerry. But it MUST NOT require a Hub Driver. The Lexar Jump Drives don't use Hub Drivers so they would work. The only question is, will the 1 GB one work. Since the PSR 3000 can use other external Storage devices such as an external Hard Drive or a Micro Drive which have larger capacities than 1 GB, then a 1 GB or greater capacity Thumb Drive should also work without any problem.

PS: Sorry if I ticked you off Steve. I did notice in another thread that you answered a question recently about using Main and Layer Voices that are the same and the result being an unnatural sound. You told him to quit doing it if it sounds bad. Succinct and to the point.

I guess what I was trying to get at is answering questions and doing it on a timely and 'consistent' basis. But I do appreciate when you do respond.

If it's not possible for you to do so, would it be possible for Yamaha to place another employee to monitor this forum in addition to your own monitoring? It would sure be a boon not only to the members here but I think also to Yamaha Music Division in general.

This may work for 3000, but will not work for Tyros, even with a gender changer adapter/cable. The two ends of the USB link act differently: the master (or A-end) issues commands (e.g. to give a list of stored files, or to transfer contents of a file, or to accept changed/new contents or a new or existing file). The slave end (B-end) contains logic to understand the master's commands, and respond to them.

The Tyros USB functions are limited to acting as a slave, hence it only has a USB-B-connector. Simply changing the connector type will not make Tyros acquire the functionality to act as a USB master end. The computer is designed to act as a master, and is required to transfer data to/from the Tyros' hard drive.

The PSR3000 has this master functionality, when you connect to the Master (A) connector, which is what makes it possible to use USB storage devices with it.

As USB is becoming a more prevalent standard of the computer industry, I can only hope that the Tyros II will have this functionality. I also hope that it will support USB 2.0 standard of communicating with the computers, and allow multi-channel digital audio streams to be sent to the computer. This should be much more useful than having a built-in CD-R drive, which adds bulk, and extra logic, and still does not allow the same level of flexibility as the dedicated recording programs do (and please don't forget 76 keys please).
