Never played one, but saw one for sale incl. the L760 at a reasonable price.
I know it's not a B3 and it is transitor(no tonewheels) but I'm curious to know if some of you ever played one? and what did you think of the sounds?
(I see and hear it next weekend and if I like it I buy it anyway )

At a Keyboard Festival last month, October. The Hammomd room had Jazz Sessions Twice a day on the all NEW B3 with accompaniment of a live drummer.....Brilliant stuff.

I'm a "Hammond snob" from way back, and all I can say is ......... the Leslie is more than 1/2 the sound. I've had Yamaha TX81z modules sound "right on the money" when played through a Leslie speaker. The Yamaha fm synthesis produced sine waves that were as pure and acurate as a real Hammond......... all that was missing was the percussion and the grit.

Unless the X5 had digital samples in it
(I don't know the model, sorry), I'd look for the new digital models by Hammond, Roland or Korg and get a real Leslie or Motion sound rotating horn cabinet.
They all sound and feel just like the real thing when played through a rotating horn. It's the air movement that "makes" the difference.

I agree Dave., but it's only $ 1.000,-- including the preamp/pedals/Leslie 760
It looks like a good deal so anyway I have a listen to it.

Fred, I am not familiar with the L760, it must be a fairly new model,,Fran [ex Hammond salesman during the mid sixties]. PS I just realized the Hammond is an X5..the Leslie is a L760..

I've had a X5 in the 80's but no original lesley.
I dumped this organ because it had to be repaired and I didn't want to spend any money anymore.
For gigging I wouldn't recommend this organ at all because it's very heavy, the stand comes apart which is not easy to transport and the footpedalboard is very hard to handle.
The X5 for itself gives BAD sounds if you compare it with modern organs.
Abouth a month ago I played the VK8 (not the VK7, huge difference) made by Roland and I was very very impressed.
In my opinion just look at the Lesley and if you like this one (i've haven't heard it last 10 years but I think it was a good model, abouth 1 meters high)if it's in good condition I'd give it a chance.
I also agree with Uncle Dave that the Lesley makes the Hammond sound.
So buy a nice keyboard and hook it up to the L760 and you're ready to go

I found the difference to be slightly in favor of the VK8. There was a certain "grittiness" that the VK7 was weak in, but both organs are still among the best "WannaB's" out there.
What do you think is the biggest improvement in the new model, Rene? I was surprised to hear you say that the difference was HUGE.

The difference is the sound and most important the feel of the keys.
If you play the VK8 you get a WOW feeling, you can't stop playing real organ stuff à la Jimmy Smith etc. The VK7 is nice but that's it.
My opinion is only based at playing the VK7 at the Frankfurter Messe 2001 and the VK8 recently.

The Motion sound is great. I had two so far. I forced myself to forget the "pipe" dream (tonewheel, actually) and admit that without a free hand to access the drawbars - a real organ technique would never be possible. If I have to play ONE handed, then the stock sounds on the PA80 are good enough. They are QUITE good, in fact.
