After reading many posts regarding this topic, I think it has finnaly hit me - stereo outs give a different sonic feel thaan mono. Right? I haven't tried it because I run a mono board and didn't think using the stereo outs would make a difference. So, would they, even if I'm running a mono PA board (808s in mains/monitor mode). Or would the board essentially eliminate any benefit in running my 2k in stereo?

The 808S is a "Stereo" board. The 808M is a mono board. If you have the 808S then it has Stereo capability.

On the other hand, if your PA is just one Speaker then even though you have a Stereo Mixer you won't benefit sound wise unless your PA uses two speakers when running the Y2K through the 808S.

Best regards,
Mike

Mike, as I said, I use the 808s in the mains/monitor mode. We generally run Mackie C300s on the mains (left)and 2 or 3 10" monitors on the other side (right). Never could figure out how or why Mackie has that stereo/mono switch; why not just use the stereo fader to adjust output.

What I really want to know is... would I get better mono sound if I input both keyboard channels into the PA, but still only have a mono output?

A monitor mix is "PRE" tone and volume sliders. If you used the L/R outputs to control mains and monitors, you would have the same EQ and effects in the each. This is not always a bad thing, but often produces feedback in the monitors because of certain EQ.
The option of using each power amp to drive a separate speaker system is a blessing. Now, you have 3 independant mixes.
Left Main could be vocals
Right Main could be instruments
Monitors can be whatever is desired.
It makes for more options, that's all.

Let's try this one more time.

If I have a mono PA setup, is there any advantage to plugging in both outputs (stereo) from my 2k to the board?

Since you are using a stereo sample keyboard, plugging in both the L and R into a mono system will probably sound better than just L/R Mono, R alone or L alone. It should have a fuller sound with both channels wired. Try it all ways and let your ears be the judge. My experience has been that both the L and the R wired to a mono amp trumps the "L/R Mono" out alone.

Why not just try it and see what you think to your ears?
