It's time to replace my old Peavey HKS12 powered speakers and want to go with a pair of powered studion monitor speakers along with a powered sub. I currently have a Roland Discover5 and Roland VK8M and expect to add the G70 or PA1x soon. I also have a good mixer.

I mostly play at home but do go out at times and play for small crowds (20-70 people). I need a full sound and I also get a bit loud at times.

Budget limit is about $1K USD. I have looked as Samson Resolv8, Roland and others but can't get a good place to compare them all.

Suggestions, opinions, guidance is welcome. Thanks!

With a budget of 1K, my vote is the EV SXA-100 plus speaker. It is selling at $599 per cab but you could bargain for $1000 for two speakers at most SamAsh store. I just got a pairs. They are light weight, sound good especially the vocal. If I have the money, I would buy the bose PAS too.

I play for audiences up to 125 people with the Z-5500 system and it rocks the house. As Pose said, it's a great system, incredible sounds, fantastic company to deal with, best guarantee in the business, and you surely cannot beat the price. IMO the Z-5500 is the next best thing to the Bose PAS, and I own both.

For this budget, my well-informed friend has advised me to buy the Mackie SRM-350s. I'm saving hard!

I definitely would not use a good pair of studio monitors. They just aren't designed to handle the SPL needed for a 75-100 person room, nor are they designed to 'throw' the sound that far (hence the word 'nearfield').

The Mackies mentioned above will do just fine, or the Logitechs as a budget alternative.

For the folks that use the Z5500, how do you setup the speakers since it appears to be a 5.1 system and our keyboards are 2 channel devices? Is there a simple 2 channel mode on the Z5500?
