Guys,
Need your help! I'll be attending a company's party in 3 weeks. Need a good DVD to learn Swing Dancing. Don't worry-I got rhythm...I just need a good basic DVD (I don't have a video player) to learn my steps. I've tried 6 steps east coast swing. That was a bit confusing. I'll perhaps go with something easier like Lindy Hop (8 counts/steps) since it's easier to count along with the music.

Any helps to which DVD to buy is appreciated!

Here's a hint for swing dancing.....

The basic step to swing is 3/4 (i.e., 6 1/8 counts), while the music is always in 4/4.

|3/4 |
dum / dum / dum dum
L / R / L R

(use Courier New Font for alignment)

You dance to the takt (1/4 notes), but not to the phrasing of the music.....

(Like a lot of Balkan dances.....)

Chuck

Hi Chuck,
You're probably talking about East Coast Swing- which I've tried before. Too confusing, perhaps coming from the musical background, I focused too much on the 4/4 beat- keeps messing my feet up. I'm thinking of somewhere along the lines of Lindy Hop/Jitterbug (I think)

Hi Chuck (and Don),
I got the DVD yesterday!

Yes-after re-reading your message again, I agree with you. The music is 4/4 but you're counting in 6....being a musician...it's hard for me not to focus on the beat...(which makes me count in 4s..) anybody can help me how to properly count and focus on the right thing so I don't miss my steps?

I feel like I'm playing "chase" with the music since I'm never in sync with the lyrics or the 'breaks'..although I'm in sync with the rhythms...is this normal? Anybody who swing dance here...inputs please?
