... well, renig mentioned them in another thread ...
I happened to catch a bit of Ringo Starr with a conglomeration of other musicians on one of the PBS networks the other night ... In this show, Ringo was the featured 'star' - "singing" and "playing" ...

He did one tune titled "I am the Greatest" which he said was written for and about him by John Lennon ... If Lennon wrote most of his stuff while stoned (I am not saying he did, but just for comparison sake ), then he must have written this song when he was cold stone sober !!!

Is Ringo the "Luckiest Drummer Ever" or what ??? ...

Tony..about 5 years ago, my friend Norman, who just passed, and I had a B-3, drums duo we booked several times a month to keep our heads on straight.

Norman booked us at a hot jazz club in Louisville, where, if you couldn't cut it, you were sometimes run out of the place!

A crusty old guy came up to me and asked me to "play sumthin"! I played Song for My Father. He came back and repeated, "Play Sumthin". I took a deap breath and attacked Giant Steps. He came back and again said "Play Sumthin"

Turns out, he was asking for the Beatles' "Something"!

DUH!

Russ

To say I'm a Beatles fan is an understatement. I posted this way back but got only one comment. POP WENT BANG

This is a 3.5mb mp3 WORK demo, in rough form. I sang it in the wrong key, it's rough and no great recording, either. The harmonies are just to give an idea... they are not Beatlish enough but this is ROUGH. Done on Yamaha psr2000 arranger.

I'd like to know if you think this has any potential... even as a cut on my own indie record... honest opinion. I'm curious if people like/dislike the song (not the recording). I have no idea. If I were to do a high-quality recording... what do you think of this song idea?

"POP WENT BANG"

[ INTRO: ]
I owe so much to Yesterday
My life changed in so many ways

Huddled on the floor with my brothers, Bob and Jeff
When Ed Sullivan said Here they are, I thought we might go deaf
Yeah yeah yeah was hipper than a squarer Yes yes yes
And I thought then that Beatle boots was what would drive girls wild

[ CHORUS: ]
Fate chose a fabulous four
Then it simply opened the door
What we got was roaring, it was soaring to the top
When the Fabulous Four first sang, pop went Bang

Take a dose of Dylan, add some Elvis and the blues
Then you add in some Beethoven and some Little Richard grooves
Moptop hair and talent, charming attitudes
Stir with the hand of fate and that's what drives girls wild

[ CHORUS - REPEAT ]

[ BRIDGE: ]
I think of silly songs and even one where they Beeped
Sir George Martin must've cringed and lost sleep
Oh, the Long and Winding Road makes me ponder things deep
Imagine, My Guitar Gently Weeps

When the fabulous four first sang, pop went bang
