A Legend he is. The Mrs. and I saw Tony Bennett at the Mohegan Sun Casino In Uncasville Connecticut. Terrific performance for sure. He was accompanied by a pianist (playing 9 foot Yamaha concert grand), a guitarist(Gray Sargeant), bassist and drummer. Tony opened with Watch What Happens then continued with a string of selections from the Great American songbook. Some selections were Can't Take That Away from Me, Shadow of Your Smile, The Best is Yet to Come, Speak Low, It's a Sin to Tell A Lie, Because of You to name a few. Of course he sang his signature songs, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, I Wanna Be Around and one of my all time favorites, The Good Life. He also did a great rendition of Hank Williams Cold Cold Heart. He told the story of a 15 year old Motown musician who came back stage to present him with a piece of music he wrote, then explained that 15 year old was Stevie Wonder, with that intro Tony sang For Once in My Life and what a performance.
Tony was right on in his performance hitting every note and demonstrating what a powerful voice he has. One thing that struck me was how natural Tony is in his delivery, make you'd almost think that he was speaking and performing to you alone.
A special treat for me was seeing guitarist Gray Sargeant again. Gray whose roots are in Boston often played with pianist Dave Mckenna, I've heard and seen them play a number of times in the Boston area. The pianist who was with Tony did a nice job as well, I never did get his name. It would have been better if Ralph had been the pianist, but that wasn't a show stopper. If TBs ever in your neighborhood be sure to get tickets for his show.
