2 Stevie wonder songs...

I Believe (When I fall in love with you it will be forever)

All in Love is Fair

...A client wants me to perform these two tunes at a dance she's having in early December. I checked the usual sheet music/chord web sites with no success.

Q: I have found requests of R&B tunes increasing in my neck of the woods, in large part to Michael McDonald's last 2 CD's...Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Taken from the "Wonder of Stevie" Stevie Wonder Fakebook which includes 48 of his songs. Unfortunately this Warner Bros publication is no longer in print.

All In Love Is Fair (Key of Dm):

All is fair in love
Love's a crazy game
Two people vow to stay
In love as one they say
But all is changed with time
The future none can see
The road you leave behind
Ahead lies mystery
But all is fair in love
I had to go away
A writer takes his pen to write the words again that all in love is fair

|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|EbMaj7|
|Am7b5|D7|G9|Gm7/C|
|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|BbMaj7|
|Am7b5|D7|Gm7|G/A-A7|
|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|Bbm7-Eb9|
|F/C-D7|G7-Gm7/C|F|A7|

All of fate's a chance
It's either good or bad
I tossed my coin to say
In love with me you'd stay
But all in war is so cold
You either win or lose
When all is put away
The losing side I'll play
But all is fair in love
I should have never left your side

|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|EbMaj7|
|Am7b5|D7|G9|Gm7/C|
|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|BbMaj7|
|Am7b5|D7|Gm7|G/A-A7|
|Dm|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|Bbm7-Eb9|
|F/C-D7|G7-Gm7/C|F|Dm|

|Dm7/C|Bm7b5|

A writer takes his pen
To write the words again
That all in love is fair

|Bbm7-Eb9|F/C-D7|G7-Gm7/C|F|F7/Eb|A+-Dm|

I Believe (Key of C):

verse:
Shattered dreams worthless years
Here am I encased inside a hollow shell
Life began then was done
Now I stare into a cold and empty well
The many sounds that meet our ears,
The sights our eyes behold
Will open up our merging hearts and feed our empty souls

|C-C7|Fm/C|C|Fm/C|
|C-C7|Fm/C|C|Fm/C|
|C/E|F|C/E|F|

Chorus:
I believe when I fall in love with you
It will be forever
I believe when I fall in love this time
It will be forever

|G-F|C-G|G-F|C-G|

verse 2:
Without despair we will share
And the joys of caring will not be replaced
What has been must never end
And with the strength we have won't be erased
When the truths of love are planted firm
They won't be hard to find
And the words of love I speak to you
Willl echo in my mind

|C-C7|Fm/C|C|Fm/C|
|C-C7|Fm/C|C|Fm/C|
|C/E|F|C/E|F|

Wow...ask and ye shall receive!!! Thank you!

Don/Scott: Do either of you perform these tunes? Any styles you'd reccomend for them?

Bill, neither of these are included in my repetoire right now, but perhaps because of you bringing these to my attention now, I'll may consider adding these. Bill, it'll be interesting to find out what Yamaha styles you decide to use for these songs. - Scott

Scott-

Haven't got to the All in Love song yet, but am very happy with how the other song (I Believe...) turned out. Here's what I'm using...

Style - 16 beat
bpm - 66

Right 1 - Grand Piano
Right 2 - Glass Pad

MP - Congo/ Bongo (#3)

I still need to fine tune it some, but, so far so good...

I do "All is fair", but I almost always do it with straight piano and strings - no rhythm. It's a powerful ballad when sung from the heart and needs nothing else to convey the sentiment of the writer.
If you MUST use a style -pick a simple, uncluttered 8 beat or 16 beat.

"The writer takes his pen, to write the words again ......"

That's GREAT stuff.

Art Garfunkle does a great solo rendition of "I believe". I was surprised to learn Stevie wrote that one...

I'm always amazed by the actual composers and writers behind some of the great music we hear. I always tend to associate the song with the artist (mistakenly I might add) performing it.

The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville is a little place that only allows singer/songwriters to perform. You MUST do original material there. It's very common to hear the writer of mega hits doing (their own) stuff that you know so well, by major label artists. Cute, quaint little place.

They have a signup sheet each day and only let 25 people do 2 songs each. Mostly guitarists, but there are a few kb players too. Check it out of you get to Nashville !
