I've read and re-read the many bulletins from many of you regarding the PSR2000, and I am convinced that for the money its the best.

I am a guitarist who wants to develop songs for recording and also for performing. Unfortunately with 3 young kids, I can afford the 2K.

Can anyone suggest a Keyboard that has the support of Yamaha, as much capability as possible as the 2K, 6 or 16 track sequencer, and costs in the range of $500???

Am I asking too much?

the 740 would work, if you get it off of ebay, no? check it out. Z

Got mine for $600 used but excellent condition.

Saw another one for $500 somewhere below.

I cant seem to find this one to get a picture of what it looks like.

Where can I look?

You may want to check this out http://www.synthzone.com/ubbs/Forum37/HTML/005755.html . I'm not sure if it's still available, but it may be worth a try.

If not, keep in mind that the PSR-2100 will hit the streets in a few weeks, and more often than not, this will result in a price drop on the previous models.

If you just want to sequence, the PSR-1000 will more than suffice.

when will the psr2100 be available ?

if you are considering PSR2000 for mainly the sequencer, then I suggest you look some where else. PSR2K's sequencer is a MAJOR PAIN to work with. It's very hard to record and edit tracks.

The PSR-550 is well worth looking at and goes for under $500. It has a PC compatible disk drive and can play GM & XG midi files that you can create or download from the Internet and save to disk on your PC. It also has the same 16 track Yamaha sequencer which is a pain to use but at least it is there is you want to throw down an idea when you are away from your computer. But on returning home I would simply save it as a midi file and load it into a PC sequencer for editing and working on. Editing on the keyboard is minimal.

Sylion, the music store close to me says he anticipates seeing them with the next six to eight weeks at most, or at least that's what the distributor is telling him. When it comes in the door, I will spend a few hours playing the 2100 and post my evaluation on this forum.

Your evaluation of the PSR2100 would be great. Still, I'll wait for an Eko open system type keyboard. I was thinking this morning, while eating breakfast (I know I should get a life) that one of the big three (Yamaha, Roland, Korg) will soon come out with a closed system. Proprietary operating system with replaceable styles and sound fonts, which could be purchased, for a fee, at the manufactures web site and loaded onto a stand alone keyboard. That would make me interested in upgrading to a software arranger.
Just a morning thought.

Get a used 740 for less than $500 thereabouts on ebay. Has all the features of the 2000, not as much "flash memory" but if you want to sequence (record midis) step up to some software such as cakewalk HS 2002 ($84).

Cakewalk will also let you turn your midis into audio for CD buring and Mp3 creation.

I got my PSR2000 for $600.00 including shipping. It was used but in mint condition. Why buy 740 when you can get much better board for just a bit more.
