A miracle happened to day. This morning my dealer phoned me and sayed that my TYROS has arrived (the speakers will arrive next week) so I drove to the instrument shop immediatly.

I took me three hours to do all the installation. Everything has been working fine, except tha I haven´t been able to install the OS update. I am using Macintosh and in PK Club web site they say, that you can only install the update with PC. So my question is: How can I install the update with Mac?

I have VirtualPC software and the problem is, that I can not install the Yamaha USB driver in Windows 98. I can not install the OS update if my computer doesn´t have the drivers for TYROS. Is there any way I can install OS updates with Mac in my TYROS??????????????????????

P.S. I will post my review about this keyboard soon.

Micco,
My sugestion is find a friend with a PC and install it. You really don't want a glitch in the middle of the update. And for the moment I would enjoy the board...the update is not that big of a deal at all really. Perhaps your dealer would do the update for you?

Dont worry too much about the OS update, it will make no noticeable difference to the tyros other than correct a few small bugs in certains settings being retained. I also strongly suggest that you find a friend with a PC to install the update, it takes quite a while to transfer the data over USB (20-30 minutes) and if anything goes wrong during this you could end up rather unhappy with a tyros that doesnt boot!

Enjoy it, when you get the opportunity update the OS but don't worry - you aren't losing out on anything!

At the moment I don´t care so much about the OS updates, but tomorrow there will be bigger updates avaivable and I would like to have them in my keyboard.

I am very angry to Yamaha about this. The customer service is very poor. Especially with Macintosh users. Why is it, that Yamaha doesn´t support Macintosh? I would like to complain about this to Yamaha, but I don´t know where.

Also the supplied tools for Tyros are very poor on Macintosh. The file utility software is so unstable that is makes me mad.

I would still like to know, if it is possible to install OS updates with Virtual PC????????????????????????? I could also use the TYROS tools with Virtual PC because Yamaha has not made all the software for Mac, but I would like to know, if it is possible.

Micco,
I think you did just complain to Yamaha. You know Steve is an assistant manager of customer support and reads the forum daily.

While I agree that Yamaha should probably make the software more useable for Mac's.....I have gone to buy a Mac no less then a dozen times over the years and always talk myself out of it, because of issues like this exactly, the broader support by all companies for PC.

I think the reality of life in this situation is that I am sure it costs thousands of dollars to come up with one of these programs. A company looks at statistics and says....99% of users are PC owners, should we invest those thousands of dollars a second time for 1% of our customers that are using Macs? I'm not sure I would either. I think Apple has some obligation to come up with a better program also so that Mac owners can access these Windows based programs....don't you?

I took me a whole week to transfer all my stuff to TYROS hard disk. It was 350 mb of midi files and styles. Many times the transfer was interrupted because of the bugs in the program. I got some silly error messages on screen. Because of this thing, this week has been very stresfull.

Yamaha doesn´t care of its customers at all. It was a mistake to buy the TYROS. Similar things happened with PSR9000. I had to wait six months for the OS 2, that should had been IN THE KEYBOARD from the beginning and still it was full of bugs. I also didn´t get the Version 2 manual. Yamaha should had send that to me. My dealer was so kind that he photocopied the manual to me, when he reseived the first version 2 manual.

Now with TYROS I can not install OS updates at all because I have Macintosh and not PC. I would also like to have the voice program and converter program for Mac.

At the moment I am so pissed that I can not even write proper english, but I hope that everyone of you understands me.

Micco, I would not trade my Mac for a dozen PC’s. Those poor PC people don’t know what elegance is. They have no idea what a good operating system is. Pure pleasure to experience the seamless flow of production in my work. Never the less, each to his own. I have found very little that I cannot do that PC people can do. What I like is I can do it easier and with less effort than they can. Like anything else, the best of anything cost’s more. It would be nice if some of the keyboard manufactures would consider making their stuff for both platforms but I guess their efforts to squeeze every penny from us takes precedent over customer satisfaction. I don’t know how it is over in Finland but by us the old saying is: Buyer Beware! Or like the old expression when I was in the navy years ago. (T.S).

The new board I have had since early last fall has not as yet had any upgrade and I fail to see the need for one to date. If it ever does the process can be done without computer or as you choose. There again it costs a few bucks more. So Micco, as you and I have not chose to go with the flow in terms of computers I have not chosen to with keyboards. Don’t get yourself all bent out of shape and next time look before you leap.
