Its been a week.
And its been a emotionally up and down week at that. BUT, its Merry Christmas for pose, and probably going to be the best one yet.
I have to first say Sorry Yamaha if your ears were burning a few times, as I explored and set up my T2. You got blammed for a lot of things, that was simply ignorance on my part. I think you assume that a professional knows a lot of things that goes between the lines of your manual. Also that not all have the same type of experience in the music business and don't take into account that updating from a 6 year old yamaha keyboard to the latest one, is almost like starting anew. If is was'nt for spending hours reading what others has to offer here on the forums, I would'nt have made the transition, and probably would have returned the ty2 to the dealer. (who by the way called me 2 times to ask it it was coming back). So would like to thank each and every contributor of this special trade knowledge, and I am proud to be a brother here.
The tyros 2 is a amazing piece of musical equipment, and the work done by yamaha is awesome. Everytime I find something that seems not so good, I find that if you use it in another way or combine it with something else it become terrific. (for instance) bring up a voice from the voice files, sounds so so, go into mf and find where yamaha has taken that voice and tweaked/added to it and its great. There's some great stuff in the data in the music finder files, and I'll start my regs by picking something close from those styles and ots's and then it's tweak on Mc duff.
The sound out of the box almost made me pack it back up, but after hours of fiddling and with help from Gary's Eq settings I got it sounding good, I added the Trs speakers to get monitors/sound re/enforcement to the Z5500 logitech system and running together the sound is very very good,(pretty close to the demo's) and probably in a couple of months, when I have a chance to tweak each and ever voice I use, I expect the sound to reach out and grab you.
The new ty2 is up and running, setting on the L7 stand, with a yam vol ped + 2 foot peds and a mfc10 that has all the bells and whistles working perfect.
I installed a 20gig hd and and redone my rack (part that goes between the board and the stand) holds the boom mic, banner, laptop.mousepad, and place to roll up all the cables etc.+ mount for power strip.
The laptop has all the programs installed from yamaha plus cake9 and midiplayer Van basco etc win player 10 and about 2600 lyrics set up in 5 catagories+master.
The guitars voices are something again, and I can't keep my hands off chicken pick'n guitars and studio fiddles. Give me a bit of time and I'll try to do something for you and upload.
I was apprehensive about the stiffer keys, at first because of the age and condition of my hands, but amazingly I'm having less trouble with them, than the old psr9k (I'm a pounder when caught up in the music) after one episode of playing for about 6 hours straight I could'nt believe my hands were ready for more. I think the softer board sort of bottomed out and was a hard stop for the fingers.
The Navigation has been the hardest for me, probably no problem for guys with the newer boards, but a big difference for me. As I'm getting the hang of it I'm finding its much more user friendly, and a heck of a lot faster
The styles and music base are very good, probably about 40 percent will be used by me and most are to much, but good for yamaha there's something in there for everyone, just mute what you don't want and/or change a voice or two.
This post is just my opinion, and thought some might care to see what others have to say.
I give it a "9" rating, could be a "10 if it had a few more keys, What about appearance you ask? This little stealth baby can dissappear from the Yamaha warehouses faster than Yamaha can build them... So a couple of people out there must of seen the possibilities they have...
Merry christmas to me...........Pose
Forgot 2 things I wanted to mention, so edit edit..
1st. Yamaha trs system needs a volume control put on one of the sats. for use with other added sound systems.
2nd. the first OS update really needs volume adjustments thru-out the entire board.(lots of low volumes and a couple mf voices are screaming out at about 150 decibels) Be nice and do the work for us, sure would save a lotta time, plus make it more playable outta the box.
Other than that you did gooood Yamaha...pose

Pose, Congrats on the T2. I know you'll have lots of fun working through the cobwebs of the OS, but after a while it will become second nature and you'll breeze from one song to the next in the blink of an eye. Cheers, Gary ------------------ Travlin' Easy

Hi Pose, congrats for the T2 and also for your review. I was lucky in that, as a T1 owner, had all the Eq, compressions and registrations already set, so all I had to do was incorporate the new sounds and styles in the old settings and I was ready to go. This is a hell of a board, but is very unforgiving: the sound is so clean that it gives away instantly even the slightest mistakes and, with the new SA voices, you have to be very careful how you play them, if you want to avoid sounding unnatural. Welcome to the land of "larger than life"!
