memories of the old yamaha organs . did the same thing in'95 with an yamaha m55 organ. took it out of its case and stand disconnected the pedals and made it very portable. alot of rockers did the same with
the hammond b3.

I had a low end Wersi organ -- took the legs and pedals off to make it protable for my jobs. It had all the bells whistles. It was the beginning and not many options.

It's great to finally see some really useful innovations now. Things have been kinda stagnant for a while in the organ/arranger world.

Looks good.
Unfortunately it will probably not make it to the UK, Europe or USA, as Yamaha refuse to export organs/electones to those countries.
The Stagea organ/electone replaced the EL900, but it is not sold in the above countries, the ones you here artists play, they personally had to import from Japan/Asia.

Now this would be interesting - very interesting. Are you listening, Yamaha?

Stacking keyboards has always been problematic, for me. A 2-tier keyboard is a GREAT idea using today's synthesis techniques. And pedals too? Wow!

Off the record, it has been said that Yamaha would bring the Stagea or any other new Electone to the UK if they could guarantee sales of 10,000 a year, which in this day and age is not going to happen, the same applies to other countries, so if you want one you will have to see which country gives you the best import price.
BTW, Wersi, Thomas, Orla (Technote in the USA) + a few others have always produced these types of instruments, this is because being low volume manufactures they do not have the overheads of the big boys. The downside to this is the fact that because they are low volume manufactures, they cannot get the big discounts on parts that the big boys can get, so in most cases they are more expensive.

Since when? All the Stagea in the UK have been imported direct from Japan or Asia, Yamaha always saying that there is not enough demand for them to be imported into Europe.
If they have started importing them, then this will make a lot of people very happy, so the question is where do you get them from?
Look forward to your post.

Bill,

The StageA IS sold in Germany. As far as I know, by ONE dealer only:
http://www.bauer-music.de/heimorgeln/electone-stagea/electone-stagea-elb-01.html

You're right that they can be imported from Asia: Japan, Taiwan and Singapore.

This is not not new info; it's at least a year old. I saw it online last summer. I think for some of us baby boomers, an all-in-one double keyboard brings back memories of earlier days. For myself, I'd love to see a double keyboard with arranger, orchestrator, harmonizer, SMF functions. Nord has one (C1) and I think I should look more closely at it.

Of course, we all want our favorite instruments configured this way. Who might do this, and what might they load into it. I think it's a great idea whose time has come again.

These are the vital organ statistics for the US.

In it's hay day, there were 250,000 home organs sold in the US in 1975.

By about 1989 it was about 18,000.

The census taken last year showed 6,900. Most of those I'm sure were sold through Fletcher Music Centers in Florida and Arizona where the senior market is still good, in some areas.

Hey Wrinkles

I used one of those either a ME-50 or 55 just like you. I bought that and a Peavey, KB300 was it, heavier than anything, louder than hell, but what an ugly sound. The guy had bought it from a blind guy that used the stuff that way. It was in the Clearwater area, maybe you know who it was.

I used the ME-55, a Technics KN400 and a Roland E35. It sounded good though .

I have long waited for the day that someone would manufacture a combo controller, but with 88 weighted on the bottom, and 76 plastic on the top...

But the main thing is to be able to get the manuals as close together as they are on organs. It is very hard to make accurate jumps from one keyboard to the next when they have to be physically separated so far vertically, because all the controls for the lower keyboard are above the keybed and the top keyboard obscures them.

They could even make it in two snap together parts for easier transport... Dual sets of sliders for the top keyboard to control each separately, some pads like the Fantoms for drum sounds and loops, maybe a nice big Kurzweil-style touch strip....

I'd pay good money for one of those...

Hi Diki
Have a look at the Silverbird form Bohm, http://www.bohm-organs.co.uk (You only need to purchase the top) because as far as I am aware there is no other keyboard that offers so many variations, it also has a good Midi control set X 3, all of which can be easily combined. (If you talk to them nicely and flash the plastic, they may even build you a custom job)
BTW Bohm instruments are hardware updatable.

$12K for two 76 hammer actions.... Hmmmm, let me think about that one for a picosecond.

Nice practical suggestion, abacus (or do you think I'm Bill Gates in disguise?)...

I just want a controller... In effect, A80 on the bottom, A70 (the G70 keybed) on the top, ALL the controls on the top. You can buy a pretty decent Fatar 88 for under $500. Same with a 76. I would HAPPILY pay $1k or thereabouts for a system that locked the two together at organ distances.

But 12k...? Get real

Hi Diki
Hadnt checked prices, but if what you say is correct, then that is unbelievably cheap for an organ of that spec, there is certainly no other organ manufacture in world that gives you that spec for so little money. (If your into organs its definitely one to put on the list)
Apart from an actual organ I dont know of any keyboards that fit together close, and if they were made then the price would still be high due to the low volume of production. (The re- tooling required to make the new cases would be very expensive)
BTW in the 80s and 90s in the UK, some artists took there keyboards apart and built there own custom versions to suit, (In the UK if something isnt available we have a habit of modifying or building our own) so you could always try the same yourself, and who knows it might even catch on.
Enjoy whatever you play

Bill
