Hugh,
The problem is one of the key pads has finally collapsed. It's not at all difficult to repair, however, there are lots of screws that must be removed from the bottom of the keyboard in order to get to the keypads.
The pads only cost about $20 and they come in octave strips for the PSR-1000, etc. I've replaced several for others, however, you must have some electro-mechanical skills to do this. You can swap one octave strip for another, however, you cannot just swap a single key for another.
If you don't have the electro-mechanical skills to do this, take the board to a Yamaha repair center and have them do the job.
Good Luck,
Gary

Yep, same problem, same solution. I ordered strips from my local Yamaha dealer and they arrived at the store about 10 days later. It's a stock item, only about $20 and like I said, the toughest part about replacing the strip was removing all the screws from the bottom of the keyboard.
Good Luck,
Gary
