I'll be recording my second CD in a few weeks just getting all the detials together.
I wasnt thrilled last time with the process of stickers, labels, printing etc etc .....

I'm interested in getting a CD printer......any info, pros/cons on some decent products to print on CD's would be appreciated. Do some of these items like the Epson R200 also still print on paper too like a normal printer besides CD's?

thanx in advance

I've done previous posts on this so pardon any repeat info.

I'm going on two years with my Primera Bravo II CD duplicator and I'm happy to report that it continues to work 100% as it should. It produces package-ready CD's unattended and not one of them has ever had a flaw in any way. The unit is also surprisingly efficient with ink if you design your artwork carefully.

The Bravo II is expensive and I doubt if anyone readily wants to spend what it costs, but IMHO it's worth it. I went through two Epson printers and a lot of ruined CD's and frustration before I broke down and bought the Bravo II. Hope that helps.

Thanx Jim,
I'll check out the Bravo II asap but to me it looks like overkill for MY purposes.
Simple print jobs is all I need.
I was looking for a multi purpose one to replace my HP 940c and also print CD's when needed.

I'm also looking at CD direct printers, but my understanding is that some will only print on a more costly type of CD... true? Thx

Donny ... I've been successful with the Epson R-200 ... also prints regular paper and does a decent job with photos as well ... For CD printing there is a separate attachment you slide into the printer ... easy ...

Glenn - It does require specific CDs in order for the ink to be absorbed ...

As my current HP printer is using up its cartridges at a rapid rate, I'm seriously contemplating a Canon Pixma iP4200... separate ink resevoirs, built in duplex paper handling and direct to CD printing. A friend has an earlier Canon model of similar capability and output from that looks very good, although I have to admit I don't think he's tried printing a CD yet!

I agree that to print directly to CD's you have to be sure the CD is suitable. The media may be slighty more expensive. I wonder whether you could just stick blank labels onto your existing CDs and print to those, if you have labels going spare?

I recently discovered that BJ's Wholesale Club is stocking slick, glossy CD labels at an outstanding price--much cheaper than anywhere I could find online. The quality is incredible, the images are tack sharp, it they print beautifully in my HP970Cse. When you take into consideration the number of CDs you will distribute over a 5 year period, the cost of a special CD only printer, IMO, just doesn't make good sense at all. This is especially true when they are demo CDs that you are providing for potential customers, most of which will only be played a few times then passed on to CD heaven.

Good Luck,

Gary
