I'm ordering the logitech Z5500 speaker system to hook my microKORG to...im pretty dumb with this stuff and I only know how to hook my little synth to a guitar amp haha...Are these speakers self-powered, and is there anything I will need to hook them up to my keyboard? Any adaptors that I can get at radioshack or something so that I can plug and play when it comes in?
thanks

The cable you will need is available at Radio Shack. It has an 1/8-inch, male, stereo connector at one end that splits to a pair of male RCA plugs. They can be plugged directly into the keyboard's line-out RCA connections. However, if you wish to use the keyboard's master volume control you will have to purchase a pair of female RCA to 1/4-inch, mono, male plugs. (They come in packs of two) Then you can plug the cables directly into the keyboard's standard output.

As for the hookup to the Z-5500, plug the 1/8-inch, male, stereo plug into the side of the remote receiver where you see the musical notation symbol.

On the back of the receiver you will see a small switch. Set that switch to 6-CH Direct.

Plug everything in, turn on the main power switch and set the Effect to Pro-Logic II Music.

Set the satellite and center speaker volumes to maximum. Set the sub woofer volume to approximately 25 percent of maximum.

Set the master volume to a comfortable with the keyboard's master volume set at the 1:00 O'Clock position.

Boost volume levels can be obtained by continuing to turn up the receiver's master volume control until you see the word Boost appear on the screen. I do not recommend performing much above Boost 6, and full maximum boost levels can blow the satellite speakers with high keyboard volumes.

Good Luck,

Gary

bthmedicinetree, I noticed in your profile, you're from Cranston, RI. I live there myself, I'm living in the West end. How about yourself? There's another member of the forum tonymadsusa who lives in East Greenwich. I have a set of the Logitech z5300s, but the z5500s are a better choice. If you haven't already bought a set check out this link I found the z5500s for $197.91 plus shipping is about $35 to Cranston.(scroll down to the seller Provantage for that price) http://www.nextag.com/serv/main/buyer/productm.jsp?product=79965307&page=1000

Compusa on Bald Hill selss these for $299.00 plus tax. Gary's instructions are very good, just follow them and you'll be ready to go.

The $4.99 plugs are the same ones I use, however, Radio Shack has a similar cable to the Monster Cable you posted that cost less than $10 and does the same job as the $29 cable.

Good Luck,

Gary

This is a great forum, I'm learning from the pros who frequent this board all the time. You'll pick up a lot of great info here. Congrats on buying the z5500s. By the way my first girl friend went to Cranston East. But the scary thing is that was many years ago.
