Does anyone know of a portable player (like the portable MP3 players on the market) that also plays midi file and has midi or serial port outputs. I would like to use this to get around the limitations of the floppy disk drive on my Yamaha Clavinova 207 - the same limitations occur on other arranger keyboards that have only a floppy disk drive. I have many floppies of mid files and it is very awkward to keep track of them. If an inexpensive portable player (or maybe a PDA) could store all those midi files AND send the data out over midi or over a serial input (that the Clavinova also has), this would be a way to get around the "lack of hard disk" on this instrument.
Of course, one could us a PC with midi or serial outputs, but that would be higher cost and much larger in size.

Any ideas?

A cheap laptop is the best way to do this. You can use an old one ( 486, P1, P2 etc ) Midi files take up very little space so even a 500MB hard drive will hold OODLES of files.

You can get a $200 laptop that will simplify your life as you now know it!

Check out the OKYWEB and the M88 MIDI FILE PLAYER (Midi Products) at http://www.bck.co.uk/ . They are two products that I think look fantastic.

The Okyweb does not play mp3, and the Galileo uses SM card. There is no comparison in my eyes. I'd still go for the Galileo. PC is an option provided you have a reliable operating system. My XP decides to go to sleep now and then, a pain if you are in the midst of something

Most definitely! Check CONTROL PANEL, POWER OPTIONS. There are separet setting for AC and battery. Set the AC setting to the max and you'll never have a 'sleep problem.' If you're using battery power, you can also extend the screen and hard drive 'on' time.

I didn't mean sleep as in powersave, I meant an unexpected shutdown. But I might be one of few these days that have such a problem... I've had to backdate the computer a few times after upgrading different software and the SP2. At the moment I'm doing good however.

I, absolutely, agree with UD. You just need
a USB to Midi interface(cost around $50). Edirol is the best, but the Maudio Uno is also good.
