Hello, I want to remind to the friends in the Synthzone, of the following:

Starting Jan 1, 2005, all cell phone numbers will be made public to
telemarketing firms. So this means as of Jan 1, your cell phone may start ringing
off the hook with telemarketers, but unlike your home phone, most of you pay for your incoming calls. These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes and end up costing you money in the long run. According to the National Do Not Call List, you have until Dec. 15th 2004 to get on the national "Do not call list" for cell phones.
They said that you need to call 1-888-382-1222 from the cell phone that you wish to have put on the "do not call list" to be put on the list.
They also said you can do it online at http://www.donotcall.gov/ Registering only takes a minute, is in effect for 5 years and will possibly save you money (definitely frustration)! Make sure you
register now!..
I use my cell as my "office" for bookings and it could be very bad for our bussines to have this unsolicited and costly calls.
Greetings and Merry Xmas to all.

Thank you for your interest in helping fellow SZ members to stop unsolicited telemarketing 'mdorantes'.

There are a few mis-conceptions with your post though.

There is NO December 15th 2004 deadline. In fact there is NO deadline whatsoever.

This article will explain more about Mobile Phones and the purported Cell Phone Directory and also in regards to the National Do Not Call Registry:
http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_cell_phone_directory.htm

You may have to scroll down to view the main text body.

But it still is a good idea to sign up your Cell Phone IMO. Just to be on the safe side; as you never know if the Wireless Phone Providers will eventually publish the 411 directory or not.

Best regards,
Mike

We never know if these stories are more imagined than real, but this has been getting a lot of attention (The Today Show, local news, etc.) ... I FINALLY got around to registering my home phone, and registered the cell phone as well ...
I am not sure of the credentials for this site, but it has been around for a while ...

The telemarketers don't even need a directory. The autodialers can just dial EVERY number.
The no-call list for home numbers seems to be pretty effective, at least in Louisiana.

Manuel, thanks for the heads up reminder to register our 'cells phones' on the 'do not call' list. I went ahead and registered my cell right away. I don't know why I had previously overlooked this.

After performing the "Do Not Call Registry's" Verification feature, I was able to confirm that my land line phone has been on this list since 6/28, It appears to have worked at eliminating 98% of telemarketer calls. I'd always been wondering how those 2% had been able to sneak thru, and it appears Don Mason has discovered the answer. - Scott

Seems that this whole thing is not true!
Here's what Kim Komando says:

--> DO-NOT-CALL LIST SWAMPED BY CELL PHONE OWNERS
E-mails circulating on the Internet recently warned that telemarketers
would have the right to call cell phone numbers Jan. 1 unless people
listed with the federal do-not-call site by Dec. 15. The site got 9.5
million listings in the week to Dec. 15, up from the usual 200,000.

The e-mail was a hoax. A Federal Communications Commission rule bars
telemarketers from calling cell exchanges. That rule remains in effect.
So, if you get this e-mail, ignore it. Many people are passing it along
in ignorance. This type of thing, passed around in a viral manner, is
almost always a hoax.
