To be honest, and after having had one for eight years, I don't think I would put the G1000's piano sound up against most modern pianos. It IS a good sound, but first and foremost, it is a panned mono piano sound, not a true stereo sample, like the NP and YPGs. These, IMO, make for a far more realistic playing experience, a feeling of truly sitting down in front of a real piano (at least to a certain extent!) than any mono sample set.
Of course, with a G1000, you get a great keybed and a great arranger thrown in, but if the piano sound is your primary focus, I'm not so sure it would improve things for you.

Dennis ..as you know the SD1+ has more features and the bass and drums are hard to beat,,even with current boards.
I disagree with Diki , on the pianos..There are enough pianos , namely the default piano, European piano, and E11 piano..they work well, and yes they are better than the PSR pianos...stereo or not...and no phase problems..
I can't think of another[arranger] board that can be found under a thousand dollars that I would take before the G1000..
Quality, and key feel count big time in my book..

I too was disappointed in the NP-30's piano...there is noise as Squeak reported...not a lot, and the sound seems thin in the range from middle "C" to the "C" above...if your looking for a really great piano sound, the NP-30 won't do it, although it's a fine instrument for the price. Good luck on your quest. Ian
