Whoa, the Tyros 2 is beyond what I expected It was delivered yesterday and I installed the 60 gig HD last night.

Here's just a couple of quick things and impressions so far.

With all the discussion on the pros and cons of different brands as well as differences in the 3000, I was a little unsure whether the T2 would really be worth moving up from 3000. I considered PA800 but trying to find one to demo is another story so I went with the T2. So far after just a few hours with it I'm very happy with it and for my preferences I made the right decision.

I can't tell you yet the number of features that I like best about it but one of the major features of the board is keybed. Since my training was on piano, I have never cared for the touch of arranger keyboards until the Tyros 2. For the first time I'm totally comfortable with the touch of an arranger keyboard. That in itself is almost worth the price.( maybe I'm exaggarating a bit with that statement ) But anyway there was always something lacking for me in the organ touch of the 3000 (great a board as it has been for me). I did get used to it though.

After printing out and reading thru the manual last week. It looked like it would be a very quick transition from the 3000 and my CVP 307. Yea, it won't take as long as moving to another board and if I had a gig this evening I would feel comfortable using it. But it's still going to take some getting used to. Right out of the box I tweaked the EQs and the after touch as you mentioned Donny, makes a difference. The SA voices will take a bit getting used to. Having 3 voices in the right had is great, plus the having the preset organ accomp voices for the left hand is cool. Last night in playing it I took a liking to the voice called "Trumpet Fall", it works well with Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White." There's lots of features I have to get up to speed on.

From a technological standpoint the Tyros 2 features beat my CVP 307 ( not the 88 keys and graded hammer action). As things stand today if someone gave me a choice between either the Tyros 2 or the CVP 307. I would choose the Tyros 2 over the CVP 307 primarily because of the advancment of the technology of the board. That's it for now as I get used to the board, I'll post my thoughts.

Hey Donny (or anyone else for that matter) -

Mind sharing the EQ tweaks for the T2 with me?

Thanks-

Bill/Dayton

Hi Steve

Congrats on the T2! I thought you might find it well worth your while. It was worthwile for me to go from the T1, as much as I liked that one.

Hi Bill

When I get a chance I'll post my EQ settings. I don't have mine set quite as hot as the other EQ settings I've seen. They seem a bit overdone on some extremes on some voices. I'm sure it's a matter of what speakers you use and your own taste.

Steve... in case you ever get your head out of that T2 ... ...
I thought I would let you know that I went to hear Diamond Centofanti (keys) and Phil Mullin (sax, flute, guitar)at a "bar" in Wakefield last night called "ShamRocks"... they play from 5 - 9 PM for an 'older' crowd before the college kids come in ... Some real good jazz ...
I'm planning to go back to hear them before I get the knee replaced in Feb ...

T, I got my head of the T2 only while I'm at my day job I haven't hear Diamond play in close to 20 years. Are they there every Thursday? Were you living here when Allary's was in business with live Sunday afternoon Jazz. I think that's probably the last time I heard Diamond.

As I recall you studied keys with him ?

Scott, thanks on the congrats it's some kind of beast I'm lovin it.

Bill, I'm not near the T2, but I'll send you later tonight what I'm using, (mine are currently on the bright side.)

Yes, I studied with him for about a year, but the day job got in the way ..

I used to travel to RI on business between 1978 - 1984, and then we moved here ... when on business, I used to go to Allarey's on Monday nights to hear the big jazz band ... "Tony Giorgiani and Jazz Odyssey" ... REALLY great local musicians in that band ...

Yea, Tony those day jobs do have a way of interfering but not for you this April.

I haven't heard the name Tony G in years!! So you do know Allarys. My favorite all time at Allary's were the Sundays with Mike Renzi, piano (later went on to accompany Mel Torme,Mike is still playing in NYC last I heard) Artie Cabral, drums, Art Pelosi on sax and Bob Petterutti on bass. Not much of that going on anymore in RI, too bad!

Steve.... Certainly not enough of it going on ... But you can catch some good jazz at Cappricio's, Chan's, the CAV, and some other places around Providence, as well as at the Atlantic Beach Club in Newport ... you just have to look for it, and the place I always search is the Thursday edition of "LifeBeat" in the Providence Journal ...
