A friend of mine has offered to sell me his old PSR 8000 for a song. What would be the advantage of swapping it for my PSR 740. Would it be worth. What about styles on the PSR 8000 how many user styles can be stored on disk. Thanks

A friend has the 8000, I have the 740. Biggest plus for the 8000 is the volume from the built in speakers. Other than that it has some sampling abilities and up to 3 layered voices. Plusses for the 740: has 4 variations per style and simple endings + groove. Sounds are similar, but the 740 is newer and I feel its sounds and styles have the edge. Unless being self contained in a large room is important to you I'd give the 8000 a miss and look at something newer.

The vocal section of the 8000 is superior, and the construction and key feel is better as well. Only 2 fillins though - that might be limiting.

I have a PSR8000. Advantages include aftertouch and a hard disk. You can store MIDI files and styles on the hard disk. However, it is awkward to play styles direct from disk. On the other hand, there is room for only about 20 custom styles in Flash memory. So it really comes up short for people who want to use a lot of styles. It works well for MIDI file playback.
