Hello everybody,

I have been wondering this for some time now. Who moderates this SynthZone forum? Who runs the SynthZone? I have never seen the moderator out here and I have no idea who updates the news and runs the SynthZone.

I have noticed that this forum has been running into some problems with posters who have constantly started up posts that have erupted in arguments. If there was a moderator here, maybe this wouldn't happen.

Looking forward to hearing a response,
Ryan

Ryan,
Nigel is the administrator of the forum and you do not have to look too far back in the recent controversy to see that he in fact locked that thread....he's here and posts quite frequently, you just missed him.

Ryan,
Last year I got to meet Nigel and his wife at the Winter NAMM show. I couldn't miss him because he was wearing a white T shirt with the Synth Zone logo right on the front. He lives about an hour away from my music store in Ventura, California. Nigel and his wife are very nice people and we owe them a big Thank You for supporting our group of synth zone regulars.

Yes I have been monitoring the BBS as I always do. While I don't wish to play censor, this is my BBS and I will deal with problems when I think it is absolutely necessary. I don't guarantee free speech anywhere, just constructive discussion. I reserve the right to remove any threads that I consider to be a waste of bandwidth.

Nigel has not been noticed as a moderator because when he comes he is actually one of the people and one of the musicians. He contributes to various discussions and in fact he helped answers some of my questions. He is a good friend of the forum. But certainly he is here when he is needed.

Ryan,
We do not want censorship, do we? You must allow for individual human differences in ways of expression. I'm not defending personal attacks, but I will not accept a forum were some members want to censor your mail because they feel the posting is crossing their personal limits. I had a little disagreement with Uncle Dave in an earlier thread were I was asked by someone else to withdraw my posting. (I got a little feeling of how North-Korea is.) Uncle Dave however, had very little trouble with my opinion because he himself is also opinionated at times!? Aren't you, UD? I also think that when some members keep whining and constantly attacking one type of keyboard, I should be allowed to tell them that I get fed up with it. We are all different, and that is just the way it is. Having monitored some other forums, I must say though that this forum is very much for (ladies and) gentlemen.

Roy,
I agree with you mostly......however, as a former moderator myself, there are some postings that at the very least are in bad taste. There are some that are bigoted and racist in content, which IMO have zero room on any forum, much less a music one. Then there are those where others make a personal attack on another member that is not germaine to the issue being discussed.

A heated debate about differing opinions is one thing, however personal insults, I do not think need to be on a forum. As adults we can agree to disagree, but I do not feel we need to go over the top with personal attacks.

If someone wants to get into a personal beef with someone else, take it off the forum either in instant messages or E mails and call each other whatever you please.

The problems I see with doing it in open forum are these:

It's devisive, with people choosing sides and getting into it.
It really serves no purpose other than to try to humiliate another member.
It's infectious and soon becomes the tone of the forum and it gets to be an ugly place to post.
And it is absolutely unnecessary.

In short one can state their opinion, enter into debate (even heated) without being offensive. And when someone crosses that line then I do think the moderator needs to step in and put an end to it one way or another up to and including pulling posts if a "stop it" doesn't work.

Censorship? Perhaps, but there are rules of conduct everywhere and a forum is no exception. I want to post in a non hostile non insulting environment, where differing opinions are welcome but ugly personal attacks are not.
jam on,
Terry
