How do you guys and gals keep track of your songs on the gig. I just got a G 70 but before that I just used a piano and drum machine. I have an Excel spreadsheet with song name, drumbeat/tempo and key. Do any of you use the Music Finder options on your arranger? I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing this because I have a huge songlist and sometimes don't play a tune for a while so I need reminders some time.

With Roland arrangers you can utilize the Performances to set up the parameters for your songs including tempo, instruments , EQ and all other settings..You can name the Performance by song name as Lady is a tramp..or generic.."Swing medium"..

You can also lock out any tone, mode, etc so it will not change when you go to another Performance[if you like]..

I like to keep my instrument set ups in my Performances with generic rhythm suggestions..and within the Performance..select any other rhythms..as bossanova, twist ..whatever I need..but, if you need reminders of what to play ..name your Performances as songs..you can view a page at a time[8 songs]..You can also link a SMF[sequence] to the song name thus having the option of playing the sequence , while playing over it with your preferred instrumentation of your performance[ turn off your link to the Performance so the sequence does not change your realtime instruments]...

You can save the Performances for quick recall[loads]..

You also have a Music Assistant in the G70, which can keep track of registrations by song name, genre, etc., and recall them quickly (alphabetically) whether they are in the current Set List (UPS) or not. It is an effective way to manage your songs, especially if you need more than 144 online at a time (the limit of the Set List)....

The combination of Registrations, Music Finder Directories, midi lists, and MFDs make this fairly easy. It just take a bit of pre-planning, plus the ability to read the audience. The rest is easy.

Good Luck,

Gary
