I was thinking of Tyros 2... if it does have a hard drive recorder... do you think it would be as robust in features as other recording setups? Or can you think of ways it would likely be not as good as other recording setups? One thing, hopefully, they'd have it so you could plug a guitar in. I guess it would like record at 16 bit?

One thing is effects. But even on my Yamaha psr2000, the effects are better than what is on my little Fostex recorder. To my ears.

In terms of arrangers, the Korg pa1x and the Gem Genesys series both have hard disk recording both having 2 audio inputs. If I am not mistaken, the Korg has an XLR microphone input.

The Tyros II sounds interesting because it sounds as if that would be able to do up to 4 separate tracks of recording.
If you wanted to splurge, there is also the Mediastation 76 and other keyboards in that price range and sophistication.

And of course you know the most recent workstations from Yamaha, Korg and Roland, have in some way hard disk recording.

Just to clarify, the Genesys microphone input can accept a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) 1/4" male jack for use with a low impedance microphone, but can also accept a high impedance microphone by using a TS (tip-sleeve) 1/4" male jack. When a TRS jack is detected, the microphone signal is routed to an internal mic pre-amp.

The Genesys was designed this way so the player could avoid using an adapter if using a high impedance mic.

PPG Realizer (4 tracks, 16 BIT) Not a keyboard but definitely worth mentioning since it was the first system to integrate sampling, resampling, FM synthesis, disk recording, analog emulation, and modeling all in one system. Unfortunately PPG went out of business before the Realizer could go into production.

Do not forget the Ketrons X1HD, XD9HD, SD1, SD1 Plus, and the modules X4HD, XD3HD and Midjay all have it, if not, as an option (X1,4,XDs only), the others cames is standar besides the microphone inputs.

Last time I checked MP3 was and is and audio file. Its not at the same sample rate as CD's but its still an audio recorder.

Couldn't you do HD recording on the later Ensoniq samplers?
