Unless you're transferring an extremely large number of folders and files from one PC to another, "indirect" transfer may be the easiest way to go: CD, DVD, flash drive, external hard drive, etc. Using the USB port for a more "direct" transfer requires an adapter, such as the following: http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/searchdetail.asp?productID=7598

Windows XP has a built-in file transfer wizard that can utilize 9-pin serial ports, but you still have to use a "crossover cable." http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/getstarted/bott_fstw.mspx

I'd burn CD's

Or network the PC's

Or I'd take the hard drive out the laptop and use my USB hard disc unit to connect it to the new base unit.

Or I've got a 44 - 40 way IDE drive adapter that lets me put the notebook drive directly into my main PC. Just be aware that notebook drives used this way tend to want to be "master" IDE drives.

Or use a big capacity USB stick?
