I just played a gig using a Yamaha PSR-E403 ($200 US) instead of my usual PSR-3000 because I'm away from home and that was all that could be found for me to play. (It was a last-minute kind of situation.)

Needless to say, the only person in the room who could tell the difference or cared about the fact that I was playing a cheap piece of plastic was me....

Your are so right MarcK. For a couple of years a singer in my band played a very cheap PSR keyboard ( can't even remember the model ) while I played a Motif 6. Everyone thought she sounded great on it. She was a great player and that's all that really mattered. I know the Motif has much more flexibility but in the long run that doesn't matter too much.

It makes the arguments here over keyboards seem sooooooo futile. The audience really can't tell the difference. The player's ability is much more important than the keyboard itself.

Before you know it you'll be paying big bucks to get those same voices on the latest top model.

Looks like an 61 key, like my 1994 Casio...
From what I gather, it is CTK-series (home keyboards). Maybe a CTK 711, or 1000 or something...
The 73 key WK series (professional) from that time were grey if I remember well.

Marck, thanks so much for this post. I was dreading today because I have to play a brief 'blessing the animals' service tonight on the church steps. I no longer have a keyboard with speakers except for an older Yamaha PSR 1xx that I keep in the choir loft for emergencies. I've debated about bringing my G70 and an amp or finding a way to skate the digital piano from inside the sanctuary out to the front steps.

Now I've decided that the PSR will do just fine. There are two or three sounds that are decent enough for accompaniment and the people out there will not really be listening or watching a concert - heck, I'm not even going to play for more than 5 minutes. I will use my talent and knowledge to make the best sound I can with the keyboard I have AND I'll save myself lots of money and worry. And to think this is one of the reasons I was thinking of selling the G70 - portability and speakers. Maybe there's another solution

I played that blessing service tonight with a dusty old PSR180. The E Piano worked just fine for all the songs I needed to play. And an added surprise were the built in demo songs - Dannny Boy and a few more that filled in perfectly. I didn't need an expensive board for this one. Thank God
