There are 2 recordings of Ghost Riders in the Sky. One on the Tyros2 and one I the SD5. Gotta say although they are both excellent, I know which one I like.

While the SD-5 is cool, I think the Yamaha has a more "finished" sound.

While some would prefer a less polished sound, perhaps for "live" playing, I would certainly want my recordings to have a CD quality sound...especially if they are intended for a CD.

And... without any doubt, haha... on this one, the Tyros recording is FAR better. I couldn't even hear drums on the SD5 recording. Plus, the Tyros one is just overall better, including the lead voices. Low volume drums has to be a mixing problem.

It's funny how Tyros drums have always been discussed as being too far back and not "in your face" and KEtron drums have been the opposite. But it this comparison, the Tyros drums are very high in the mix and the Ketron's are buried.?

The article states that they are comparing the Flagship models from both
Ketron and Yamaha - the top of the line
from each company.
I was under the impression that the SD1+
from Ketron at $3,308 was their Flagship
model, not the SD5 at $2,316. If they want
to compare top of the line boards they should have compared Tyros to the SD1+ not SD5.

I was expecting to hear some hot drums from the Ketron, but this was obviously not the case. I agree with Bill--the Yamaha wins hands down.

IMHO. Both had strengths. The T2 was a more finished/studio sound. The SD5 sounded more live band. The echo on guitar on the SD5 was a little much. To me, the end result is the T2 is a better but at time more sterile sound. That being said I prefer the T2 performance. I a live performance, wouldn't you want to sound polished? You can make it live through your playing. IMHO

I'm a big Ketron fan, but the T2 sounds far better here. I suspect there are more optimal settings that could have been used on the SD5.

That's certainly a matter of opinion. IMO, 'polished' would be the choice for a recording and 'live band' sound for live performance. A finished 'CD quality' sound only enhances that DJ image/sound. (Hmmmm, sounds like he's playing a CD) The pattern used for 'Ghost Riders' does in no way project what the Ketron drums can do.

Yes,

The T2 would be compared to the SD1 while the SD5 would be compared to the PSR3000. Also, a variety of songs (including dance, latin, ballads...etc) would be better as they each have their strengths in the various style categories ... I am sure more demos are on the way in January!
