Gang-

I've been scanning like a mad man over the last few days. I have one folder on my C drive that's called Musicpadpro. Within this folder are several sub folders (Standards, Oldies, Pop, etc). Also, in addition to these subfolders is a full database of all the songs I've scanned. This way, when I access my thumb drive via the MPP, I see a full listing of every song available, plus all the various sub folders should I want to display only a list of that style song.

Having some trouble transferring everything to the thumb drive.

I am able to copy/paste all song files to the various folders with no problems at all. However, when I try to add the complete song database it only accepts it up to a point...which is the start of the "O" titles. There is tons of room on the thumb drive left. (1.9 GB of 2.0 GB still open)

The error message I get is this when trying to copy to the thumb drive:

CAN NOT COPY YOU'VE GOT PERSONALITY: THE DIRECTORY OR FILE CAN NOT BE CREATED

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance-

Bill are you copying and pasting directly from the C drive to the USB or are you using the USB direct to PC(laptop) cable to transfer? That could have something to do with it. By default MPP in Windows XP creates a directory that looks something like this

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER ID IN WIN XP\My Documents\My Sheet Music\

Not sure whether you changed the path and name ? That may have an effect on your problem it's possible it's not seeing the
correct path.

My suggestion is to go over to Freehand
postthe question there or call Freehand. I had some minor issues in the past and contacted Kevin their tech support guy. If he's not in the office leave a message and he will call you back with an answer.

Its not the first file with a single quote in the file name, is it?

I talked to Freehand, and they say they advise using a 1 gig drive.

Also you might want to check and make sure that file is not corrupted.

I would try taking that particular file and move it out of there then try copying and see what happens.

Try creating a new folder. Go to your computer and create a new folder with name such as MIDI on your desktop. Then after you see it on your front pafe desktop - send it to your thumb drive or "E" or whatever it's called. After the transfer, check the thumbdrive and you will see a folder named "MIDI". At this point download your midi files to the file named "MIDI" on your thumb drive. Let me know if it works.

Gang-

I gave Kevin a call at freehand and here's where I'm at...

1) With a 2.0 GB thumbdrive, its going to require 25-30 seconds or so to fully open. Also, when navigating backwards from a song to the folder level...it still takes almost ten seconds to get back to the folder content level. This is becasue of the size of the thumb drive. Kevin had me do a experiment with the 64 MB thumbdrive that came with the MPP, it opens up and navigates very quickly...

SO...I'll stop tonight after my gig and buy a 256 MB thumb drive. I've got roughly 50% (maybe a little more) of my library scanned in and converted to .fh files. Currently, these files equal 135 MB...with a 256 MB drive, it should be large enough to handle all my files, but not so large as to be slow in responding.

In this case, bigger is NOT better, he says...

With regard to the inability to copy files into my MPP Folder...

There is a max number of folders/files within any given folder. Kev had me delete a few files...then try to create a new folder...which worked.

So...Tomorrow I'll reorganise my MPP folder. Again, currently is has several style sub folders (Standards, Pop, Country, etc. PLUS a complete A-Z song database..(That's the culprit!)

I'll keep the style sub folders as is, but I'll put the song database into folders titled A-F, G-M, N-T, U-Z

Then, I'll be in business!

Ok, four sets at the local Amvets tonight...

Thanks everyone for your help...

Have a great and profitable weekend!
